Obituary of Mr. Rafael C. Verches

July 15, 1941 – March 22, 2024

Rafael passed away on March 22, 2024 at the age of 82.  Born in Jose Panganiban, Philippines on July 15, 1941 to Ramon Verches and Andalicia de la Cruz.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Agnes, Rafael (Nancy), beloved Ronald (Toni), and George (Liza); grandchildren: Junior, Maliya and Alexia.  He will be dearly missed by his sibling Ramon.  Predeceased by sibling Lilia.

Rafael was a kind and generous soul who always thought of everyone else first.  He loved his family and never complained regardless of how he was feeling or how much pain he was in during the last few years.  He was so selfless that he never wanted to inconvenience anyone for help nor ever expected it as he didn’t want to be a burden on anyone.

Rafael graduated as a Mechanical Engineer but put that aside when coming to Canada in order to provide for his young family.  He always worked hard at whatever he did and always gave it his best effort with the highest integrity.  He was a man of few words as he led by example, but when he did speak, he was heard.

He was loved and respected by everyone and always welcomed everyone into our home with open arms including all of his children's friends growing up through our early years.  He was always looking to help anyone out in need and provide support when required. He loved spending time with the family and hosting gatherings as the family grew bigger so he could prepare a few of his special dishes.  His other favourite pastime was thoroughbred racing and the excitement of the sport.

In his later years, what made him smile and his eyes light up were his grandchildren and his variety of fond memories with them which always provided him happiness and laughter even over a decade later.

Rafael was a man of great character with a big heart and will be greatly missed by all who touched his life.
