Obituary of Mr. Fitzgerald (Clyde) Alleyne

Please share a memory of Mr. Fitzgerald (Clyde) to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fitzgerald (Clyde) Alleyne. Born on March 7, 1936, in Trinidad and Tobago, died on March 13, 2024, in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.

Predeceased by his mother, Albertina Smith, his father, Joseph Alleyne, his brother Carl Smith, his sisters Pearl Smith, and Elvira Alleyne.

Left to mourn is his wife and best friend of 46 years, Sylvia Alleyne. He will be missed by his children, William, Simon, Vereney, Terry, Carol, Deborah, Dexter, Jevon, Michael, Petra, Sherman, Michelle, Marcia, Clyde Junior, and his siblings, Selwyn, Joyce, Lynnette, and Clarence.

Clyde was a beloved patriarch and a wonderful grandfather who was adored by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Clyde worked for almost 30 years at VIA Rail Canada. In retirement, he served as a volunteer driver with the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, Children’s Transportation Centre. He was also an active member of the Westend Sports and Cultural Club. He enjoyed vacationing in Trinidad and spoke fondly of his visits to Tobago.

Clyde’s love of music set the tone for all the parties he and Sylvia hosted. Family and friends will remember the great food, good music, and lively conversations. His humour and thoughtfulness will be deeply missed.

Rest well, Clydee. You will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
