Hi I am Sushma Kathrine Friend.
I met Kathrine 11 years ago when she moved to condo and I also moved the same time
Every morning as soon as we get up, we will send each other messages. We knew about each other’s whole day routine, what we did or where we went etc
People talk about designers. Kathrine was my designer friend like one of kind. Very caring ,very unique friend and kind hearted
She has this effect on people like a magic marker she will leave a permanent mark on people. That's what she did to me. She left a permanent mark in my heart.
Losing a friend like Kathrine is a big loss for me. I feel very empty and all alone.
Kathrine, I love you and I miss you.
I close my eyes as I wipe a tear.
I just keep wishing you were still here.
I will hold all the memories deep in my heart.
I love you Kathrine and I'm going to miss you a lot.

On behalf of my mother, Mrs Lee and sisters, we extend our deepest condolences to Harry, Stanley and their families.
Cousin Katherine will always be remembered for her kindness & warm heart. I am so grateful that we did spend precious time together in May 2023 in Singapore during her recuperation. Living in Australia, this was our first meet-up since July 2012 when my husband, Val and I visited Toronto. Much to our delight, it was Katherine that managed to ‘round up’ all the Wong cousins living in Toronto for a reunion. We all had so many fond memories to share with each other!
Katherine, you will be sorely missed but not forgotten. May the Good Lord grant your soul eternal rest.

Katherine was such a kindhearted person. Always happy and positive. Over the last couple of months, we would chat or message each other through WhatsApp. Kat was always positive and upbeat, still worried about others during this time while she was sick. Despite everything she went through, her faith and love for God maintained strong. I had the pleasure of singing alto with her in the church choir, what a beautiful voice she had. Kat and my Mom were always gallivanting, going to lunch, movies, concerts, Handel’s Messiah etc. Katherine was truly our Sister in Christ. She will be sorely missed by us all but the sweet memories will remain with us forever. There is a song entitled “People Like You” that describes who Katherine was:
If you give a little more than you take
And if you try to fix more than you break
If you're the kind who takes the time
To help a stranger in the rain
There's a place for people like you
I've heard up there the streets are made of gold
And when you get there, there's a hand to hold
I believe when your days down here are through
There's a place up there for people like you
RIP Kat… we love you always

I have known Katherine Liao (“Kat” to her friends) for over 50 years since her university days at NUS. After her graduation, she joined MAS and we continued our friendship when she organized a tennis group at the Civil Service Club and our group enjoyed Saturdays playing tennis together. Kat was the unifying force that held the group together for several years. During this time, we also met her loving parents and brothers Harry and Stanley at her home and built our bonds of friendship that lasted all the way to Canada after we had migrated.
In the 80’s, my wife Sally and I were delighted when Kat and her family emigrated to Toronto to join Harry and Christina as we could renew our ties. Soon after, we got together and enjoyed the good old times again as she was always good company with that ready smile she brought to the gatherings.
At Christmas, Kat had thoughtful gifts for our children, Sean and Stef, when they were growing up. One event of note was her extreme generosity to let us use her apartment for a few months, when our new house was not ready, and we needed a temporary place to stay.
Now the small Singapore diaspora has lost a significant member with the passing of Kat. We will greatly miss her as Kat was one of the remarkable people, who was always positive and had a cheerful personality, who had never uttered an unkind word about anyone. Over the years, her circle of friends had increased in Toronto, who were drawn to her radiant personality.
Despite her health issues, Kat never complained and looked forward to return to a fulfilling life. She was courageous in the face of adversity, and even when facing the arduous tests and treatments during her infirmity, she was highly considerate and would not impose on her friends when she could manage them on her own. She would check into CareFirst Transitional Centre and take Uber transport to downtown hospitals for her medical appointments.
We are so blessed to have known Kat and her family, and we offer our deepest condolences to Harry, Christina, Stanley, and their families. As we reflect on the future, we wish to emulate the shiny example of our dearest friend Katherine, an angel on earth, on showing us the way that we should live life to the fullest in the way of her Christian faith, a magnetic personality radiating positivity and kindness to others.
Kat will never be forgotten as she will always remain in our hearts. We will miss her immensely but know that our angel has ascended into heaven and we dedicate her to the eternal loving care of the Lord Jesus and the angels and saints.

My deepest condolences to Katherine's family and friends for what has to be a great loss. I have known Katherine for more than 20 years - she was one of the kind work colleagues who welcomed me and showed me the ropes as a new immigrant and then she became a friend. She was always cheerful, gracious, kind and funny. I will cherish having known her and the fond memories of sharing our faith, French lessons, a Paris apartment in the sixth arrondissement on one of our visits to France and hosting Sunday lunches at my home with some work friends of the same era. It was a privilege to have known her and I wish her eternal rest and peace in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father where we will meet again in the sweet bye-and-bye.
Au revoir chère amie

Although I have not seen Katherine since 1969, I will always have fond memories of her. We met in Primary 1 in a neighborhood school. Then she transferred to MGS and I to CHIJ but we maintained contact through our parents.
Katherine was always so polite and refined as you can see in the pictures. My mother always commented that Katherine could pose so well and was so ladylike and very polite. She was so right! From what I know, Katherine maintained her grace and elegance even in her later years.
Rest in Peace, Katherine. I wish that we had met up.

My family and I extend our deepest condolences to Harry and Stanley and their families on the passing of their beloved sister Katherine.
I have known Katherine since we were in secondary school - together with Jennifer, the three of us went out together very often – we particularly enjoyed going to concerts at Victoria Memorial Hall etc followed by supper at various places. One of the most memorable times we had together was when the 3 of us went to HK for a 2 week holiday in May 1969 just before University started – we had a ball of a time just being together sightseeing, eating, shopping.
After Katherine moved to Canada and as I live in Australia, the only times we saw each other was when we visited Toronto in 2000 and 2004. She very kindly spent time showing us around the city and suburbs and we were very happy we were able visit her parents too. Through the years Katherine was also in touch with my sister and brother-in-law who live in Toronto and I am glad that they had a very nice dinner with Katherine in August 2023 when she was well.
Even though Katherine and I have not physically met up again since 2004, we have constantly kept in touch with each other mostly via emails and occasional phone calls, sharing family news and photos. In recent years we what’s apped each other frequently- more so in the past year.
“True friends are never apart, maybe in distance but never in heart”
Katherine was especially brave, optimistic and strong throughout the past year due to her unwavering Christian faith. I am comforted to hear that she was peaceful before she passed on.
Kat, thank you for being such a caring, true and sincere friend all these years.
I will forever treasure memories of all the wonderful times we had together.
Rest in peace in our Lord’s loving arms my very dear friend Kat.

Boonchye and I had the privilege of reconnecting with Katharine when we found out we were living and working in the same city of Toronto. We shared many enjoyable meals together, and also when Singapore friends visited. Katharine often joined our family for our annual CNY “yee sang” meals at Restoran Malaysia. Just before this last Christmas , Mary Seet came to visit Katharine, and together with Sally, filled her fridge and freezer with home cooked meals made in Kat’s kitchen!
Katharine, Mary, LiKwong & Sally Cheah ,Boonchye and I shared a happy luncheon together , the last time that Katharine was at my home.
What struck me most, especially over the last 6 weeks when Katharine and I were able to communicate almost daily through WhatsApp & phone conversations, was Katharine’s courage and her deep faith. She bravely faced numerous investigations and treatment sessions with resilience and optimism. In spite of her daunting condition, she cheerfully shared informational, inspirational and humorous messages/clips, and showed her usual kindness and consideration of others.
Fortunately she was only hospitalized for a very short period. When seen a few hours before she left this world, she was peaceful. Katharine’s strong unwavering faith undoubtedly reassured her that she was in God’s care, embraced by His loving arms.

Katherine and I met in 1965/66 through a mutual friend (Julie LY, Greensboro, NC) and we were part of a Serangoon Gardens teenage group that hang out and attended some parties together. After college we went our separate ways, with a few migrating overseas. Hence we lost touch for over 40 years. About 6 years ago, I was able to briefly get in touch with Katherine via email.
I will cherish my memories of Katherine as a kind and cordial person, and I regarded her as a true friend. And her gentle and sweet voice during our phone conversations.
May Katherine's soul rest in peace in Heaven.

I met Katherine some 50 years ago in school and our friendship progressed through our time in the University and also working at the same bank. She was a loving and filial daughter and left a successful banking career to go to Canada to be with her parents, Despite the long distance, we kept in close touch; visiting each other and on travels together. When faced with her health challenges in the last 7years or so, she remained positive, steadfast and cheerful; always holding on to her very strong faith in the Lord. I am so happy she finally made a trip to Singapore last year after an absence of 10 years. She had a lovely time of fellowship over dinner with our Year 72/73 University mates and everyone she met there expressed their heartfelt condolence when they heard of her passing. Thank you dear Kat for the lovely memories we had and I will always cherish them. Rest in Peace in Heaven's glory.

On behalf of my siblings, samson & may, we expressed our condolescence to the bereaved families of Harry & Stanley. We have known her & as our parents and her parents were close friends. She is a very fervent & caring Christian, that has touched many lives of her contemporaries. She is gifted linguistically in English, mandarin, & Latin. She is talented in singing & play the Chinese ku jeng 古筝 . Though she lived in Canada. Whenever she travelled to Singapore, she made efforts to touch base with my mother & us. She would write to my mum & reach her using distance call telephonically in the past. We will missed her presence. Last year , she came & celebrated my 70th birthday dinner with Stanley too.

I have known Katherine for 20 years when I first started at the office as a junior employee. She was very kind to me and has shown me the ropes. She was a positive person and was always very encouraging even when I was feeling down. She said to me, « it was not a sprint but a marathon!» when we were going through the pandemic. I had kept in touch with her the last couple of years mostly through WhatsApp. My hubby and I had an outing with Katherine to Richmond Hill to visit Alex and his wife in October 2023. We will cherish our happy memories together. Rest in peace, Katherine!

Our condollences to Haryy, Stanley and families. Katherine had been a dear friend to me and Julie Leu of Greensboro, North Carolina. We had been dear friends since our our Primary 1 days in Singapore. In fact, 2 weeks ago, three of us were planning to meet this coming March. Katherine had been my friend as we lived close by in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. Met her father and mother too in Singapore and later in Toronto. She had been a great daughter when she retired early to look after her dear parents. Every summer, she looked forward to enjoy my home-grown beefsteak tomatoes. The last time I saw her was when she came to my house to pick up the Achar which I had made for her. The achar was to help to enjoy her porridge in the morning. Well, Katherine rest in peace. Will miss you dearly. My son, William will also miss his Auntie Katherine too. Linda Loh.

Katherine has been a dear friend of over 50 years. We were great travel companions, jetting off after U final paper to spend a month doing the grand European tour. Many years later at 55 we spent a month in Spain studying Spanish. Despite the distance after she moved to Toronto, we have been in close touch, through mutual visits to each other and via whatsapp.
My last trip to see her was in early Dec 23. She was well enough for us to spend a week together with friends Li Kwong and Sally, Cinda and Boon Chye.
She was strong and steadfast throughout her many health challenges over the last few years. She remained cheerful and thoughtful to her friends.
I was glad the end was quick and peaceful. I bid her a fond farewell and will treasure the wonderful memories of great times spent together.
