Obituary of Mrs. Gloria "Wonnie" Assing

Please share a memory of Mrs. Gloria "Wonnie" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gloria “Wonnie” Assing (nee Marhue), passed away peacefully at the Mariann Home nursing home in Richmond Hill on Monday February 5th, 2024, at the age of 92 years. Loving mother of son, Mark, daughter-in-law Karen Chang-Assing and grand children Brandon, Lauren, and Justin. Gloria is survived by her brothers, Lennox (Denise) Marhue and Errol (late Patricia) Marhue, and her sisters Patsy (Peter) Lee, Glenda (Keith) Achue, and Germaine Marhue. Loving daughter of her predeceased parents Randolph and Beryl Marhue and cherished sister of late brothers Kelvin (Jasmine) Marhue, Herman (late Fay) Marhue, Kenneth (Diana) Marhue, Neville (Annette) Marhue, Clive (Nell) Marhue, and Courtney Marhue. Lovingly remembered by her 25 nephews and nieces and her many friends.

Wonnie was born and raised in the town of San Grande, on the island of Trinidad. She was one of twelve children born to her parents Beryl and Randolph Marhue. As the third child and first girl, she quickly took on the role as second mother to all her siblings. She would continue in this role for all her long and illustrious life. Her dedication to her family extended to all her in-laws, nephews, nieces, and friends. Wonnie could always be relied on to help in any way she could and would do so happily and selflessly.

As well as being so caring and loving, Wonnie was also very strong and independent. She was a single mom, who juggled long days as a bank supervisor, usually opening the bank in the morning and closing the bank in the evening, while dedicating all her time at home to raising her son, Mark. Her dedication to family continued with her daughter-in-law, Karen and three beautiful grand children, Brandon, Lauren, and Justin, whom she cherished and loved dearly.

We are truly grateful for having such a loving caring soul in our lives for so long.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation for all the wonderful, heartfelt expressions of sympathy, prayers, and love offered by so many during this time. We would also like to say a special thank you to all the staff at Mariann Home for their caring and kindness to Gloria (Wonnie) in the last year of her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mariann Home at 9915 Yonge St. in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
