Obituary of Mr. Sam Vasilopulos
With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Simeon (Sam) Vasilopulos, age 90, on Saturday, January 27th, 2024, at Scarborough Grace Hospital. Sam was born on July 17, 1933, in the village of Bouf (now Akritas), Florina, Greece, and is survived by his spouse, Donna, children, George and Eileen (Paul) and his grandchildren, Dylan and Tyler.
Sam is predeceased by his parents, Filip and Ilenka Vasilopulos, sisters, Kirsta, Fania, Tomania and brother, Tsane.
Sam came to Canada for a better life and found it in his work as a baker and owner of Philip’s Home Bakery. He was fixture at Main and Gerrard for many years, and his bread was truly legendary.
Sam’s love for his friends and family was immense, especially for his grandchildren. He was a proud Macedonian and Boufchanets. He loved to attend the dances and picnics hosted by the Bouf Cultural Association, and to gather with his friends at the local coffee shop. Sunday Coffee-time gave him so much joy - it was his only request once he could no longer drive himself.
Sam will be dearly missed by his family, near and far, and the many people that knew and loved him.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of Scarborough Grace Hospital that provided care these last two weeks, and to the many PSWs, neighbours, paramedics and fire dept. that have come to assist. It does take a village, and we are forever grateful and thankful for your help and care.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
