In Loving Memory of Dan Remo

July 06, 1963 - January 11, 2024

In remembrance of Dan Remo, who passed suddenly in the early hours of January 11, 2024 as he slept.

Dan was taken home by Our Heavenly Father to join his parents Filemon and Alicia Remo. He leaves behind his beloved wife and partner Elma, children Nicole and Katrina, and his grandson Manuel. He will be sorely missed by his siblings Ponciano (Jessie), Verina (Emmanuel), Amelia (Joey), Maria Fe (Manding), Carlos (Tina) and Elvira (Dante). He was a loving uncle to his 16 nieces and nephews and his presence will also be missed by his 15 grand nieces and nephews. His Barkada and brothers of the FilCan Riders Club of Ontario also feel his absence deeply.

Dan Remo was born on July 6, 1963 in Manila Philippines to Alicia Del Rosario and Filemon Remo. He was the second youngest of the 7 Remo children, having four sisters and two brothers. On December 12, 1979, he immigrated to Toronto, Canada and settled in Scarborough. Upon arrival they lived with Vena and her family and shared a two bedroom apartment in Mornelle Court for several months before acquiring their own unit in the same building on the same floor. In 1984, they purchased a home in Scarborough which soon became the place for numerous family get-togethers.

When he arrived in Canada, his first job was at KFC where he often brought home leftovers to his family after his shifts. He then worked at a plastics manufacturing company with his Ate Vena. He started off as a general helper and cleaner but it didn't take long before his hardworking nature was noticed and he was offered the opportunity to perform skilled work as a mold setter. Dan dedicated his career to this industry working as a Mechanical Technician at several companies throughout the GTA. While working at EMU Plastics Limited he met his love, Elma. This was the beginning of a budding romance which blossomed into a dedicated and enduring relationship.

In his most recent years he was planning and anticipating his retirement. After vacationing in the Philippines in 2023, he was hoping to spend more time and possibly even retiring there. He dreamed of traveling more and visiting the islands of Palawan one day.

Dan Remo embraced life wholeheartedly and enjoyed several hobbies throughout his life. He lived for camping trips with his family and Barkada, as well as fishing with his daughters Nikki and Trina. During the cold Canadian winters he loved snowmobiling, even if it was only up and down his neighbourhood street. He was apart of the Scarborough Select German Shepherd Schutzhund Club where he found his passion in putting his dogs to work. During his down time he would enjoy going on leisure drives with Elma to grab a Timmy’s coffee or frequent some of his favourite local restaurants like Swiss Chalet and Lucky Lin’s.

His most recent passion was riding his motorcycle alongside his FilCan brothers. He had the opportunity to go on several epic adventures throughout Canada and the United States. Last year, Dan went on a 7-day adventure through the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. He completed the same trip in 2018 riding his Harley Davidson. He cruised through the Blue Ridge Parkway, Smoky Mountains, and explored the famous “Tail of the Dragon”. In 2019, the FilCan Riding Club took a 10-day trip to the east coast of Canada, riding through Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia while exploring Gaspe Bay, the Bay of Fundy, Halifax and the Cabot Trail. Within the same year, they rode north to Lake Superior traveling from Toronto to Wawa Ontario. Other notable mentions are trips to the Algonquin loop, the Highlands and the Hwy 27 loop, the Americade Rally at Lake George, NY and numerous "Friday the 13th" rides to Port Dover. Dan will sadly be missed by his FilCan brothers especially when they ride out to Guelph for the lovely Siopao run.

Dan valued his family immensely and enjoyed spending all of his time with them. He was very fond of children, embracing his role wholeheartedly as a Tito before becoming a father and grandfather himself.  His daughters Nikki, Trina, and grandson, Manny, were the apples of his eye. He loved his family and would always make the effort to attend each and every event.

His warm presence and his charming smile will be remembered by all and his absence will be felt in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and love him.

May he rest in eternal peace.
