Obituary of Mrs. Frances Scinocca
Frances Marie Scinocca (nee Dowhan)
November 6, 1928 – January 8, 2024
With her daughter and granddaughter by her side as they held her hand, Fran passed away peacefully on January 8, 2024- two months & two days following her 95th birthday. She was born on November 6, 1928, in Arcola, Saskatchewan and spent most of her life in Toronto/Scarborough.
Fran was predeceased by her husband, Don (Domenic) Scinocca who passed away in 2015, following 65 years of marriage. She was also sadly predeceased by her eldest daughter, Kathy Amsden, who passed away far too soon, in 2019. Fran’s older sister, Hilde, and younger brother, Bob also predeceased her, while she is survived by her sister, Nellie (and husband Charlie), and a large extended family with whom she made great memories over the years.
Fran is survived by, and will be forever missed by her daughter, Cheryl; and her four grandchildren: granddaughter, Alison, and three grandsons, Clayton, Kevin and Brett. She loved them all so dearly and was immensely proud of them and had the great fortune of spending so much time with them throughout the years. Fran was an outstanding mother figure and such an integral, instrumental part of her daughters’ and all her grandchildren’s lives and upbringings. Her legacy will be passed on through five great-grandchildren (so far).
Fran was a kind and generous person who loved the simple joys in life, baked one heck of an apple pie and many wonderful roast beef dinners. She always had a smiling, sweet disposition right up until her final days, despite valiantly fighting her way through dementia and several other ailments throughout the past few years. She fortunately always recognized her family, as she did with the Turner Classic Movies she enjoyed until the end, and never forgot the lyrics to Frank Sinatra songs (her sweet Frankie). Blissfully, a piano rendition of ‘I’ll Be Seeing You’ played just moments before her passing.
Fran was a wonderful friend and neighbour to many, she adored her family’s numerous dogs (and even a couple of birds) throughout the years and her family will forever cherish the multitude of dear memories they were blessed to have made with her.
As per her wishes, no formal ceremony or service will take place. A private burial has taken place where she’s laid to rest alongside her husband and his extended family. Should you wish, please donate to a charity of your choice on her behalf, and if you’re able to, have dinner with your family in her honour. Fran absolutely loved celebrating her family and their togetherness on so many occasions, and she would surely be happy to know that her daughter and four grandchildren gathered to do just that to celebrate her life.
