Obituary of Mr. Michele Spataro
In Loving Memory of Michele Spataro
October 11, 1945 – December 1, 2023.
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michele (Mike) Spataro, a beloved husband, father, brother and cherished Nonno. Mike departed this world on Friday, December 1st, 2023 in Toronto. He leaves a legacy of love, warmth, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Concetta "Cetta", with whom he shared a lifetime of memories. Together, they faced life's challenges as new Canadians and built an unbreakable bond while cultivating a better life for their growing family. Mike’s spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of his children; his two daughters Gabriella (Onofrio) and Laura (Daniel), and his son Alessandro, who carry his legacy forward. Mike would always light up with pride and joy when being with his grandchildren, Anna-Grace, Michael, and Julia. He would enjoy celebrating their milestones and always showered them with unconditional love.
Born on October 11, 1945, in the town of Caltanissetta, Sicily, Mike grew up with his parents Santo and Concetta, his two brothers Corrado and Antonio, and his sister Paola. He grew up in Pachino, but his heart was in Porto Palo. At the age of 18, Mike and his family took the great leap from Italy to Pier 21 in Nova Scotia to start the adventure of their lives. From then on, Mike’s life was a testament to hard work, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to his family.
In Mike’s downtime, one could always find him tending to his garden growing tomatoes, long zucchini and hot peppers, or spending hours in the garage repairing the family vehicles. After retirement, Mike was always challenging himself to learn new concepts such as navigating the internet, completing crosswords in quiet places, and relentlessly fixing anything that needed fixing around his or his friends’ homes. Mike also loved to travel and always found peace and tranquility relaxing on the beach in Wasaga or at the Casa Mare in Sicily while creating enduring memories with loved ones.
Mike fought bravely against a quick and vicious cancer that took him away too swiftly. At the beginning of his illness, his determination to travel home to Canada to be with his whole family was a testament to his fierce love and dedication. Despite the challenges, he faced his illness with courage, inspiring those around him with his strength and resilience.
Mike will be severely missed by all that knew him. May he rest in peace, and may his soul find eternal solace in the arms of God.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Lung Association.
