Mr.Hugh Shik Lun Shang

December 6, 1953 to November 12, 2023

Hugh was born to two loving parents in Hong Kong, where he grew up along with 5 other siblings. In his younger days, he worked as a bank teller and worked his way up to become an assistant bank manager

at Hang Seng Bank. Little did he know that later in his youth he would meet the love of his life, Christine, to whom he would marry one day and have two beautiful children.

After retiring early in 1997, he chose to immigrate to Canada with his wife and two young children. Within a year, he was able to buy a house in Markham where he would eventually set down roots. This would be

where his children would eventually go to school, where his family would build countless memories, and where his family would call home.

Hugh was also an avid volunteer, particularly within the church community at Chinese Martyrs Catholic Church. This was a place where he could share his passion for helping others, and his talent for music.

He was a part of many church groups and has made an impact on many people more than one could count. Hugh was a Eucharist Minister, a volunteer for the church’s Outreach program, and had near

perfect attendance for Daily Mass in which he frequently led prayer and MC-ed. Despite being a senior himself, he volunteered weekly at Mon Sheong Senior Care and Yee Hong Centre. He also ran the Foot Reflexology program, which provided relief to many, and shared his talent of singing alongside choirmates for the Sunday 8PM mass.

On November 12, 2023, Hugh went home to be with his Heavenly Father. Hugh lived a very purposeful and meaningful life, sharing joy and laughter with everyone he encountered. He always thought of others

first, and he will be deeply missed by his wife, Christine, and his two children Benedict and Beatrice.

Beloved Hugh, may you rest in peace.
