My sincerest condolences to the family of Harley Payne. Mr. Payne was my teacher when I was in high school and one of the main reasons that I started to believe in myself and my abilities. I have been looking for him throughout the years to connect with him to let him know that he inspired me to do better, but was never able to find him on social media. I wanted to thank him for the positive impact that he had on my life, just by being my teacher for one course yet believing in me. Mr. Payne was an amazing teacher that you would always get a clear and truthful answer from and it sounded like he lived a fulfilling life with his family. To the family, know that he made such a difference in my life and I'm sure so many more. RIP and thank you for everything.

A very dear friend for many years, dating back to the early 80’s. I will forever remember the frequent, sometimes daily, phone calls seeking technical support for the many electronic devices he possessed. Always admired for the tremendous love and dedication he showed for his family. We extend our sincerest condolences to you Shirley, and your family, on the passing of your loved one. Missing those phone calls already. Go in peace my friend.

As a young man new to teaching I met Harley in 1983 at Bendale. He came in on a Saturday to teach me how to weld - he was such a giving man. Our friendship continued over the next 40 years with weekly phone calls, and the occasional visit. We shared a love for the Caribbean, and enjoyed our exchange of humorous emails. The belly laughs we shared kept us both fit and out of the gym. Harley, my friend, you will be dearly missed. Thanks for the friendship and the laughs.
My sincerest condolences to Shirley, Tanya, Jamal, and Gyasi. Sincerely, Lou D’Angela & family (Lina, Christina, Nicole, Joe & Family).

Dear Shirley, Jamal, Tanya, and Gyasi - I was very sad to hear about Mr. Payne’s passing. Being home to pick up the phone when Mr. Payne called to speak to my dad was always a delight. I loved intercepting the call to hear his joyous and friendly voice. He really was a lovely man. He was always curious about my life and work and would listen sincerely as I talked about all the foods I cooked. He really loved his goat, and I promised to cook it for him one day - I’m sad I never had the opportunity but I’m sure he’s up there with a fine feast of all the goat he could ever wish for. Sending the family love and strength; he will be missed. With Love, Christina D’Angela

To The Family of Harley Payne:
I offer my deepest sympathies to Harley's family, during this most difficult time in one's life, when we say goodbye to someone we love so dearly. It is a tragic loss.
It is with profound sadness that colleagues learn that another family member at Bendale Business & Technical School has died. Harley's death at 73 is such a shock. Along my pathway in Education,
I met wonderful teachers like Harley Payne.
Harley was laid back, kind, with a great sense of humor and always willing to go the extra mile for the students. Bendale BTI Staff worked together for the betterment of our students. Thank you for sharing Harley with us. He will always remain in our hearts.
In sympathy and sincerely, Katherine Lowens-Varey.

Harley was a dear friend. Our 40+ year friendship started when we built our fences together. There were many good times when we played soccer both indoor and outdoor, hilarious times that should have been videotaped, it would be worth a fortune today. Harley had several unique traits on the soccer field and at the bar afterwards. He was one of a kind. Harley had zero hesitation to tell you what he thought, especially if he thought you needed the advice. A rough diamond that defied smoothing.
