Obituary of Mrs. Frances "Joan" Rife

Please share a memory of Mrs. Frances "Joan" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

RIFE, Frances “Joan” — On Sunday, November 5, 2023, Joan Rife passed away peacefully in her 89th year at Victoria Manor. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 61 years, Robert “Bob” Rife. Joan grew up in Oshawa, where she met the love of her life, Bob. They later bought their forever home in Scarborough, where they lived for 63 years.

Joan was influenced by her family to be a loving and caring woman, always dedicating her time to others by volunteering at schools and participating in church and the neighborhood, while making lifelong friends. In her free time, she loved to bake, read, attend book club meetings, knit, crochet, sew, garden, and look after her grandkids.

Later in life, Joan spent most of her retirement as a caregiver to her husband, Bob, who suffered a severe stroke. She relied on her faith during this time and made very close friends at her church, Holy Spirit.

Joan is survived by her loving children: Brian, Karen (Kevin), and Dan (Lisa). She was a dear “Gramma Gram” to Joseph, Dane (Brittany), Mackenzie (Kaitlin), Matthew, Erin, Josh, and Troy, and a Great Gramma to Connor and Ava. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Veronica Patterson, Dan McKenna, Joan Hicks, and William Corn, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Margaret Patterson, as well as her siblings, Joyce (Bill) Kashul, Shirley (Frank) Smegal, Wayne Patterson, and in-laws Don (Jan) Rife, Barbara McKenna, George Hicks, Peggy (Len) Corn, and Brian’s partner, Tracy Purdy.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, November 17th, at 12 noon at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Avenue East, Agincourt, with a Memorial Service to follow in the Ogden Chapel at 1 p.m., followed by a reception.

Peace be with you, Joan, and may God bless. Donations made to Diabetes Canada would be appreciated by the family.
