Obituary of Mr. Brian McLaren
Brian John Shepherd McLaren, 76
Brian McLaren hiked his last mountain on October 4th, 2023 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland to George and Georgine McLaren, Brian immigrated to Canada at the age of two where they settled in Agincourt, a suburb of Scarborough, Ontario. Brian would later go on to set his own roots in Scarborough where he remained part of the community for most of his life.
His immense passion for the outdoors lured him to spend a lot of time at his family cottage on Silent Lake in Bancroft, and later, at his own cottage in Port Severn with his own friends and family.
He enjoyed hiking the mountains and trails of British Columbia, alongside his brother Graeme and any willing friends. He was an avid sailor in his younger years while also enjoying a round of golf. One of his greatest passions was hockey, where he watched, played, and coached his two sons in the Scarborough Hockey Association and GTHL.
Brian is survived by his wife of 39 years, Deborah McLaren, his two sons, Reid McLaren (Dr. Tyrelle Hunt) and Justin McLaren (Magdalena Grzelak), and his brother who resides in Victoria, BC Graeme McLaren (Freda Ann).
Family will hold a private celebration to honour Brian’s life sometime in the future.
