To Our Uncle and Brother It is with deep sadness that we say farewell to our dearly beloved Uncle and Brother. As a child growing up in Tobago, I embraced the opportunity to see my Uncle and his family when they visited our home. Though distance away he loved his Caribbean family unconditionally. I am happy that we kept in touch and in our recent conversation you mentioned you were not well, but I couldn't fathom it would be our last. The wonderful memories of you will forever be etched in my mind. Today, we celebrate you Uncle Mitchell, your sisters - Thelma, Cathalyn and Eka are heartbroken and even more so, since they are unable to witness your homegoing, but they are strengthened by the fact that you are in a better place. From your nieces and nephews - Marilyn, Hyacinth, Sharon, Inger, Nicole, Lystra, Pat, Tracy, Harold, Rock, Ricardo, Hamel, Clint, Mboya, Arno, Mellie and others, we say farewell with heavy hearts. As I looked at the photo of my Uncle Mitchell, my eyes were flooded with tears. I find it ironic that I have so much love for an uncle that I met through photograph. As a child, growing up in the 80s, my mother took the time to expose us to her four brothers, no if whom resided in Tobago at the time. This was done through sharing photos and telling us the stories of her childhood experiences. My Mother, Eutruce (Deceased), loved her brother Mitchell, who perceeded her in birth. He was her defender at school, as she was quite mild mannered. After Mitchell migrated, her occasional conversation with him would bring absolute joy. After Uncle Mitchell's retirement, I had the privilege of spending extended periods with him as he vacationed in Tobago. Notwithstanding his quiet disposition, the joy was mine to hear his stories and to receive his fatherly advice for life. Since hearing of my uncle's passing, I have wondered whether it's necessary to say good bye. I have chosen to do what I have always done on the occasions that I have seen him. "See you next time Uncle Mitchell!"

To my Uncle "Mitch", It is with sadness that we say goodbye to you. I have so many fond memories of our camping trips, endless BBQs and rides in the station wagon on those long summer days of the 1980s. As an adult, I will miss your wisdom, infectious laugh and dry sense of observational humour. Thank you for being such a great uncle. My favourite uncle. Our hearts are heavy today, but we rejoice because you are in the Lord’s presence and reunited with Auntie Jelda and Bradley. My condolences to my cousins Colin and Jennifer, Austin and all of our friends and family here, and in Trinidad & Tobago. May God bless us during this time.

I remember fondly how you came to the Toronto Airport to welcome me when I arrived in Canada. I remember how you took me to your apartment and how you and Jelda provided for me until I was able to settle down on my own. I will ever be grateful for your kindness and hospitality. Through the years, that special bond that we had, even at childhood, became stronger, especially over the last year as we shared together. But this is not goodbye but adieu, because we will meet again. Till we meet again my brother. Your brother, Alvin.
