Obituary of Mr. Roy Anthony Willems
After almost five years in remission, Roy lost his battle with cancer on August 28th, 2023. He passed away peacefully at Centenary Hospital on his 78th birthday, surrounded by his beloved brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, daughters and their mother.
Roy was born to Celestina DeFreitas in Bartica, Guyana, and immigrated to Canada in 1964, joining some of his family, who he remained close to throughout his life. He was a hard-working car enthusiast who enjoyed his career as an Auto Body Technician and worked several years at General Motors in Scarborough. More recently, he spent his days restoring a Studebaker from the ground up. In addition to his passion for cars, Roy was an avid country dancer. He loved to spend his evenings teaching and learning line dances. A highlight of his life was a trip to Tennessee where he showcased his country swing dancing talents.
Roy was a kind and patient man who loved his family unconditionally. He always had a joke to brighten your day and was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back without asking for anything in return. His surviving family members are deeply saddened by the loss of such a wonderful man and will miss him dearly.
Cherished father of Jackie and Jennifer. Adored Grandfather of Araya and Leonardo. Loving brother of Donald, Randy, Brenda, Bernadette, Joan, Serena, and Joyce. Predeceased by siblings Thelma, Ewald, John, Delores, Veronica, Barbara, Claudette and Chuck. Roy will also be missed by his beloved friends and extended family.
