George served not only through his actions, but also through his words. One such example was his cooking meals and hosting others at his place, for us to fellowship.
When he wasn't feeling well, I called him to ask how he was doing and what his prayer requests were. His request was to pray for our pastor and the church, not mentioning his discomforts at all; an example of George's deep care and consideration for others.
I am truly blessed to have known George and to have been greatly encouraged by him; spurring us on to pray and to not take our eyes off of our Lord and Saviour, regardless of our understanding, emotions or the circumstances.
Here is a picture of George at church (July 2019).

George, you touched my life with your kindness and faithfulness during my difficult times. I hope to walk with God and continue to be sanctified as you did with Him.

George has such a special place in my heart. I have trouble describing who he is.
Humility is probably one of the fist things that comes to mind. As experienced and knowledgeable as he was, he was always quick to correct himself or to confess something. It made him so approachable and gentle.
I admired his passion for prayer. Always praying, always communing with God. And I think that was one of the things that made him so reliable. He really understood that there is spiritual warfare, and trusting in the power of God through prayer.
I loved seeing his smile. And although he didn't always talk much, some of the things he said either made me think really hard or smile as well - many times it was both.
I really appreciated how well he cared for Connie and me - calling us the "Two Good Sisters" and also using us as his guinea pigs of inviting us over to his house for a meal before he did that with others. He was so hospitable and caring. The photo here of him smiling was when he, myself, and I went to go visit Aunt Vanesta. The love of the Lord was clearly evident in His life.

George was utterly dependable. He would show up early and wait outside the car until the exact minute that he said that he would arrive. He was such a handyman. He helped our family with moving a century-old piano that was the heaviest piano that I had ever carried. George brought his pickup truck and straps and work boots and directed everyone through the physics of loading it onto his truck and then to our townhouse basement. He learned to cook later on in his life, taking cooking lessons and trying it out on us. He started off my wife's farm by giving a fifth of an acre of his backyard. This allowed Tash to have all the opportunity to experiment and have such an encouraging support from George. Now Tash has gone on to up to 2 acres of farmland up north. But it was all made possible by George and his unhindered willingness to risk and try. He had such a gleam in his eye to try such zany ventures. On top of this George and Tim built the most beautiful shed for Tash. I wouldn't call it a shed, it was a quaint cozy office and rest place shelter for Tash. George and Tim expertly cemented the foundation and put such love into the details. Such as a red door, a charming wooden dresser for the tools, and plant holders for the outside. George is irreplaceable and he changed, literally changed SO many people's lives.

George was truly a gift and so special to our church family. He was indeed such a kind, gentle, humble, hardworking, prayerful, and so much more.
I remember going to a prayer meeting with just him and I. I was so emotional that day, in tears. He comforted me, prayed for me and encouraged me to turn to the Lord in his gentle and calming presence. He was always attending prayer meetings even if he sat alone, he would still show up week after week.
He also invited a few of us over to his home where he cooked a wonderful feast for us. Sent us home with food, box of huge nuts that he bought for us and didn't allow us to help with cleaning. He did it all, and did it like it was nothing with much joy and love.
I remember we had a church retreat far out west in the middle of nowhere. I was shocked to hear he found his on way there by transit which must of took him hours!
Our church would not have been the same without George. He served the Lord and Rouge Valley Church with his whole heart. We miss you George, but know you are with the Lord.

George is someone that I desire to be like when I grow up. His heart and mind were still open to being challenged by God to live more freely and abundantly than the day before. He was the most generous person I know. Without him I truly do not know where I would be as he had such a huge part in starting me off in the job/ministry I am currently in.
I remember one day when we were at a church retreat, Olga and I were going for a walk, and George who was much older than either of us started for a walk right after us. He very quickly outwalked us, went further than us, and then also beat us home. Olga and I both were laughing about it because it made us feel so out of shape and also because we loved seeing his joy in walking. We both turned to each other and said we wanted to be like George when we grew up. When George was no longer able to go for walks, we also felt his sadness because we knew how much he had loved them.
George was so willing to be stretched by the Lord. One time there were many people coming to his house and I asked him if he was okay with it. He told me that God was bringing it and his own comfort was something that could be stretched by God. This impacted me as an introvert who very much enjoys my solitude.
George also always encouraged me in prayer. He was always there for prayer meetings. He was always encouraging the church to pray. What a blessing we have had in knowing George. He would repeat the story of Alyssa asking him if he was praying and how that impacted him.
Lord, thank you for the time we were able to spend with this man who loved you dearly. Thank you for blessing us through him and I believe he is now with you enjoying freedom, joy, great walking legs, and deep friendship with You right now.
