Obituary of Mr. Ronald Birkett
Ronald Carlisle Birkett was born on July 11, 1935, in Jackson, St. Michael, Barbados, the land of coucou and flying fish. He was the 4th son of Theodore and Rueben (Ruby) Birkett. Sinclair was the oldest, then Launcelot, Keith, Carl and finally the only daughter, their sister Floris.
Migrating to Canada in the late 60’s to pursue a start in a new land. Pops, as he was called by his immediate family, would later sponsor his sister Floris, and bring his son, Wendell to Canada.
During the blistering cold winters in Canada, he would listen to classical music on CBC, and pass time doing what he was famous for “building things out of wood”.
From furniture to model planes & trains, he loved to work on his models.
Carl was a modest but a particular man who worked tirelessly at Spectrum Educational Supplies and Epson Canada until he was fed up with the cold. At the age of 60, he returned to Barbados to start an early retirement but ended up working while enjoying the sun, sand and sea in beautiful Barbados.
He would later become a Canadian snowbird, spending 6 months at a time in both Toronto and at his home in the parish of St. Philip in Barbados.
He leaves behind his son Wendell, and Wendell’s wife Sandra.
Grandson William, Granddaughter Shea
and three great grandchildren, Jaylen, Aliyah and Jackson.
Well, “Pops/Carl/Batteries” you did it your way.
Laying on your side outstretched on the bed,
with your hand under your head. I imagined you saying:
“well, Dahs it, I gine down below.”
And so, you have travelled your earthly journey.
Peacefully leaving us having reached the golden age of 87. Fare well
