Obituary of Mr. Herbert Garfield Steele

STEELE, HERBERT GARFIELD Herbert Garfield Steele passed away unexpectedly, on Friday, May 5, 2023, at the age of 81 in Toronto, Ontario. Herb was born in Edmonton on June 10, 1941, the eldest child of Marjorie and Garfield Steele. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers-in-law, Douglas Wiggins and Anthony Bonnici. Survived by his siblings, Evelyn Wiggins, Edmonton; Betty Anne Bonnici, Toronto; Roger Steele (Jacky Murray), Edmonton. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. Fondly remembered by Marion Nesbitt, Winnipeg, and Peter Jansons, Alliston.

Herb graduated from Downsview Collegiate and obtained his B.A. from the University of Toronto. During university, Herb served as a reserve officer in the 7th Toronto Regiment. In 1997, Herb retired from a 33-year career as a teacher of History and Geography at George Harvey, City of York He was an avid fisherman, loved gardening and enjoyed playing poker, Herb was intellectual, articulate and well-read, as he had a keen interest in a broad spectrum of topics.

A service will be held this week at Ogden Funeral Homes, Scarborough, Ontario.
