Dear Marc, Matthew, Rebecca Daniel, and extended family. I’m so very sorry that your wonderful wife, mom, sister, and daughter Denise has passed. She was an amazing beautiful person.
I met Denise in the mid 2000s at the College of Nurses and we became fast friends. She is the one who encouraged me to do the LLM. We were both so proud as some of the first non-lawyers to graduate from the program. She was always so fun, so positive, kind and supportive. And her laugh was the best! We spent many a lunch and evening over the years sharing stories about our kids, husbands, family and work life and of course travel.
When she told me last spring that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer she told me she was going to fight it. She faced many challenges over the last year but she did so with determination, grace, and strength. Although she is no longer with us she will always be in our hearts and minds. Rest in peace dear sweet Denise.

My sincere condolences to Denise’s husband Marc, her three children and her family on your loss. I worked with Denise for many years at the Ministry of Health and it’s so hard to believe she’s gone. I remember her best for her love of life – living life to the fullest - her cheerfulness and her sincerity. We shared a great many laughs (and did she ever have a wonderfully boisterous laugh!), honest conversations and even shared a tear or two. We often talked about the ups and downs being families of 3+ kids. She had pictures of her amazing family in her workspace and often spoke of them with much pride, especially her children. She was such a giving, kind and generous person and will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers will be with her family through this difficult time. May your many warm memories of Denise and knowing she’s at peace bring you some measure of comfort in your time of mourning.

I met Denise at Laurier - she was a friend of a friend but we ran into each other often socially at school. Always friendly, always kind and she had the most infectious laugh. I was able to connect with her right before the pandemic at an Octoberfest party, where she danced the night away with her husband, laughing that same laugh. My sincerest condolences to the entire family. My heart goes out to you all.

I met Denise in our second year at Laurier in our statistics course. We were told on the first day that we had to do several projects with a partner. It was Denise (sitting in the front row of course), who turned around with a friendly welcoming smile and said, “Hi - do you want work together?” Those projects turned into all-nighters where we stressed, talked about our relationships (there was only one person for Denise so that’s how I learned all about Marc), and giggled uncontrollably because once Denise started laughing you couldn’t help but laugh along with her! Our friendship lasted throughout our times at Laurier, through both our weddings, the births of our children and even zoom calls during the pandemic. It had been some time since we saw each other face-to-face, so perhaps it was divine intervention that we met last October for a dinner out. Denise spoke openly about her diagnosis and her outlook was optimistic and positive - just as you’d expect if you knew Denise. Our conversation quickly turned to her family, where she talked about how amazing everyone was doing and how proud she was of Matthew, Rebecca and Daniel and all they had accomplished. Denise brought light into any room and her sense of humour and infectious laugh couldn’t help but bring joy to those around her.
It is often said that the hardest words to say are Hello and Goodbye. I will forever remember how Denise was courageous and brave enough to do both. I will cherish our friendship forever. In the words of E.B White "You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing." ~ Charlotte's Web

Denise was a colleague at the College of Nurses of Ontario. She was temporarily assigned a cubicle next to me when she had just started at the CNO. We engaged in conversations about the profession and had a wealth of knowledge to share. I appreciated our conversations and her kind gesture in loaning me a book on the RHPA. She really did have an infectious laugh. It's as vivid as I last heard it in person. Rest well Denise.
