George was an incredible resident to have. I was the lucky one to have such a caring, fun resident who got involved in everything! My favourite memory of George was the summer I trained for my half marathon. He was my biggest cheerleader. Everyday he would ask how long I ran and how I was feeling.
He was an inspiration to so many seniors. Thank you George!

I remember most Uncle George's laugh - which we heard often. He was always smiling and willing to chat - gracious and caring. When he and Dad got into their car talk....there was no stopping them.
I'm so glad Dad and Uncle George spent time together in their later years.
Condolences to Susan and Bill - Chris, Nancy, and all the grandkids and great grandkids.
Wishing everyone lovely memories of a lovely man.

Dear Susan and Family,
It was such pleasure getting to know George. During the pandemic we visited our parents twice a day and got know this forever smiling, energetic man - your dad. George became a really good friend and neighbour to our mom, Isobel, at Amica after our dad past and she really enjoyed his company. They had lots of wonderful conversations and reminisced about the past and their lives, children and grandchildren. Lots of parallels were realized. They both grew up a block away from each other on the Danforth. They laughed that they probably past each other in the halls at school or on the street. We aways said George was not only a cup 1/2 full. He was a cup over brimming with joy. He will be missed.
Sincerely and with love,
Karen & Linda Chadwick

George was indeed a true gentleman. We greatly appreciated getting to know him in later years. It was wonderful to meet him in Ireland with his brother Norman and in 2004 with Bill, Nancy, Leesa and Nicholas. My Mum just loved to see her cousin and family corresponding with him over many years. They both shared a deep and meaningful Christian faith. The family visit to Ireland in the months after my fathers’s death gave her a great lift.
Our family were very grateful for the hospitality and kindness shown to us by the Pennell/Layton family when we visited in 2016.
We offer our heartfelt sympathies.
Love Neal, Margaret, Nathanael &Ellen Beckett and Edward Rea

Growing up, he was to me and my brother, Uncle George, along with Aunt Peggy. Although I didn't see him often, he always greeted me with a smile, kindness and love. George was soft-spoken but had strength of character and soul. He listened and genuinely cared about any topic of conversation. George was bright, lively, loved life and loved to share a laugh, too. George was a blessing to all who knew him, and I only wish I had gotten to know him more. May he rest in peace, rise in glory, and may light perpetual shine upon him, in Christ our Lord. Rest well, dear Uncle George.
With love and prayers,
Matthew Shields and family

George was the true definition of a gentleman. It was always a pleasure to catch up with him at the yearly family bbqs. We also enjoyed having him over for Christmas dinner a few times over the years. He was a joy to be around and he'll be truly missed.
May his memory be a blessing to us all.
Blessings,
Colin, Juna and Angelo Shields

Our condolences to Bill and Nancy, Susan and Chris, and their families in this sad time. George was a dear members of St. Philip's Anglican church and is missed by many, and remembered fondly by all. George was a true gentleman of deep faith, willing to help others in need and to volunteer where needed. God rest your good soul George, and comfort all who sorrow. Rev. Stephen, St. Philip's.
