Obituary of Mr. Ivor Jones

Please share a memory of Mr. Ivor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ivor Parmenter Jones, of Toronto Ontario, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 5, 2023, surrounded by his immediate family.

Ivor led an incredible life that spanned The Great Depression and the iPhone 14. He was born in 1932, and as a young man he was a talented baseball player that had a professional career cut short by injury. After returning home, he was fortunate to be offered an apprenticeship steamfitter position by a man up the street from his family home. He joined Union local 46 on November 9th that year and he was a steamfitter for the next 41 years.

After retiring, Ivor began a temporary job, one that matched his naturally helpful nature and love of interacting with people, as the driver of the courtesy shuttle for Scarborough Toyota. This job soon became a second career with 25 years of service coming to an end only because of the pandemic.

Throughout his entire adult life he was surrounded by community and the joy that it brought him. Whether it was as young man finding the best bands in the city to dance to at Le Coq d’Or or Friar’s Tavern on Yonge St, as a championship bowler in more than a few leagues, or as a Baseball and Hockey coach for nearly 3 decades all tolled, he spent his free time trying to share and spread the happiness he found in life to as many others as he could.

Undoubtedly though, Ivor would say that his greatest success was his family. He met and fell in love with Betty Mathers through his adventures as a bowler and they married in 1963. They then set to work starting a family with the goal of providing more opportunities for their kids than they had ever dreamed of themselves. Jennifer and Jeff were born in the years that followed and they grew up enjoying a house filled with love, hope, and joy.

After Betty’s passing in 2003, Ivor was blessed to find and then share his life with his current partner, Pauline Aitken. Pauline and Ivor enjoyed love, happiness and adventure for the next 20 years, especially in their role as grandparents to their shared grandchildren.

Ivor is survived by his partner Pauline, his daughter Jennifer (Gabor), his son Jeff (Danielle), and his grandchildren Lucas, Oliver, Grace, Hailey, and Nathan. He was predeceased by his father Robert, his mother Eva, his brother Robert and his loving wife Betty. He will be forever loved and missed by his extended family and friends.

Ivor’s family will host a visitation and funeral service (followed by a reception) on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. (visitation) and 3:00 p.m. (service) at the Ogden Funeral Home - Chapel

4164 Sheppard Avenue (in Scarborough).
