To the Hohs family,
My sincerest condolences on the loss of your mother and grandmother. They have such special places in our lives that are so hard to replace. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting her, my talks with Ron over the years certainly left the impression of what a special person she was.
I hope those memories will help you through to happier times.

To the Hohs family, I first met Vera in 1949 when I was 9 years old. Vera & my mother Blanche Morris & Mae MacMillan all started working together @ Eatons Dept store. That was the start of a wonderful friendship that also included me. My mother was involved in both Vera & Mae's weddings many years ago. Every few months the 4 of us would go for dinner @ Lichee Gardens for Chinese food. My mother was a single mother so that is why I was always included.
I looked @ both Vera & Mae as wonderful aunts. This friendship continued until my mom passed away in 2013, I was so happy that your mom was able to attend mom's funeral. Many times Vera visited mom in her nursing home & we were so grateful to her. I remember your mom & dad's wedding day, I was also invited to attend with my mom. The 4 of us had lunch together many times over the years & kept in touch with phone calls. I will miss Vera's wonderful outlook on life. Vera was also a part of my grownup family, they loved her also like an aunt. We have all lost a wonderful friend, but fortunately we have our memories. We are all thinking of you at this time... My deepest sympathy goes out to Brian, Ron and their families.
Vera was a very special lady who brought love and joy to everyone she met. I first met Vera at Jubilee United Church where she attended for many years and volunteered in every capacity. I told her she was like an Energizer battery and just kept going and going. I was fortunate to have a visit with Vera days before she moved to Collingwood and we shared good memories and some laughter. Just before I left, she did a little dance and gave me a big hug. It is a memory I will hold close to my heart.
Vera was very small in statue but very big in life and I will miss her dearly. Rest in Peace my dear friend.

To Ron, Sandy and family. There are no words to express our sympathy on the loss of your Mom, Mother-in-law, Grandma and Great Grandma. Vera's loss will be felt on so many occasions. Your girls had the privilege of having her in their lives and also in the lives of their children. She lived a long and interesting life and may she rest in peace. She was a lovely lady.

Ron and Brian and family, I can't begin to tell you how much Aunt Vera meant to us (Barbers). She was always happy to come to any activity we were having. Even when she didn't drive anymore, one of us was always happy to pick her up. We are going to miss her smiling face and stories she would tell. She was the epitome of grace.

The Hohs family (Charlie, Vera, Brian and ‘Ronnie’) and the McCall family (Howard, Beth, Steve, Liz and MJ) were next-door neighbours for decades on Sweeney Drive in Victoria Village beginning in 1958. Anchored by the lasting friendship of our Moms (Beth and Vera), we remain in touch to this day. We are all sad to have lost Vera.
The 3 McCall kids, Stephen, Elizabeth and Mary Jo, (Vera always used our full given names which I kinda liked), don’t know life on this earth without Vera. Outside of family, there aren’t too many people who have been with us through all of these 60+ years.
We could not have asked for a better neighbour (just make SURE your shoes came off at her door!!!) Where else would you go, except to Vera’s, to get first aid and a drive to the doctor for stitches following an errant rock thrown by your sister (intended for the river by the way).
I had a really nice phone visit with Vera at least once a year … generally when I received her birthday card (up until the last couple of years when she stopped sending them, did she ever miss?) or when she received my Christmas card. Even after cards ended, our phone visits continued — they were warm, newsy and short. I always looked forward to interactions with Vera. She seemed to me to always be perky and optimistic.
I’ll never forget ‘blocks’ extending the foot pedals on her Cadillacs in days gone by.
She was small but mighty! The other day Ron remarked to me that Vera was ‘a small boat that left a big wake’ - a big wake of POSITIVITY Ron, for certain!
I’m sorry you’ve lost another dear friend Mom. To Brian and Ron and your entire family, I am sorry you have lost your warm and lovingly Mom, Grandma and Great Gramma.
The world is a poorer place without Vera — heaven is richer.
Stephen McCall

Vera was one amazing lady and we will all miss her dearly. She was our neighbour when I was young and I remember her baby sitting me and watching her sew. She made me a lovely barbie gown and matching Cape that I still treasure today!
Vera never forgot a birthday and I will miss her cards and especially the confetti that would come flying out!
Beth, Barb, Liz and I were so grateful to share lunch with Vera last May.
Miss you dearly.

I always referred to Vera as my first friend in Canada. We met in the pool volunteering at Bloorview on Sheppard Avenue. Vera's smile and welcome at that time made me feel at home immediately, and when I've seen her since I have had the same feeling.
Vera's life was long and well lived, I feel privileged to have known her and called her friend.
To Vera's family - enjoy the happy memories.
sincerely

There are so many lovely memories of our Aunt Vera. The many visits with my sister Laurie and Aunt Vera’s generous time spent with her will always be cherished by Laurie and I.
I remember a fond visit in recent years with Aunt Vera when I mentioned to my husband that I didn’t want her to fuss about our visit. I suggested we would only go for tea, but in Aunt Vera’s loving hospitable style we were served a beautiful array of salads, cold cuts and cakes to name a few. Our Aunt Vera, the quintessential aunt and hostess.
Forever in our hearts Aunt Vera.
Love Laurie and Lynne, xxxoo
