Obituary of Mr. Albert Hung-Kai Au-Yeung 歐陽鴻楷先生

Please share a memory of Mr. Albert Hung-Kai Au-Yeung to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Albert Hung-Kai Au-Yeung on March 24, 2023; beloved husband of 48 years to Betty, loving father to Joanna (Derek) and Ben, and cherished grandfather to Christopher and Trevor.  Albert is survived by his siblings Louise, Robert (Melissa), Xuyen (Bernadette), Toan (Hoai-Trung), and Mong Ping (Anson).  He will be remembered fondly by his many nieces and nephews.

Albert was born on September 27, 1944 to parents Quynh and Yao Auyang in Guangxi, China.  The family relocated to Vietnam in 1945 when Albert’s father accepted the role of Chinese Consul in Hanoi.  In 1965, Albert moved to Hong Kong, where he would eventually meet, marry, and start a family with his wife.  In 1983, Albert moved and settled his young family in Scarborough, Ontario so that his children would have the opportunity for a better future.

Albert had many hobbies.  Among them, he enjoyed travelling around the world with his wife and documenting the adventures with photos, many of which he shared in group chats with his siblings and friends.  He was also a popular Tai chi instructor who faithfully practised the martial art every day.  Albert also had a passion for comic books, including Astérix, Lucky Luke, and Old Master Q (Lo Fu Gee).  A talented artist, he enjoyed sketching people and animals in his spare time.  Most importantly, Albert treasured spending time with his family, including clowning around and doing the floss dance with his grandsons.

Albert will be remembered for his boisterous laugh and for living life to the fullest.  An adventurous and fun-loving person, Albert never went to bed unless he had achieved his daily goal of at least 10,000 steps.  He will also be remembered for keeping decades worth of meticulous journals that recorded his daily activities and the people he saw.  Most of all, Albert will be remembered for being a devoted family man who loved his family with all his heart.
