Mrs. Mary Baird

Obituary of Mrs. Mary Baird

Please share a memory of Mrs. Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Baird passed away peacefully in Scarborough Ontario on March 21, 2023 in her 97th year. Beloved wife of the late Stanford Baird. Loving mother of John and wife Brenda, Jim and wife Susan. Kind grandmother to Duncan (Chantal) and Laura, Katherine and Alexander. Blessed with two great grandchildren, Kewin and Oliver. Born and raised in Maniwaki Quebec, and predeceased by parents John and Katie (Brogan) Grimes, and siblings Richard Francis, Jack, Kathleen (Tims), and Patrick. Remembered dearly by many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours. From an early age, Mary was a natural leader, care giver and matriarch of her family. A devout Catholic, she was ever gracious and kind, and always placed the needs of others before her own. Everyone knew they could count on Mary. “What would we do without you” would often be said in describing her many acts of love and caring for her immediate and extended family. Mary also enjoyed her work life,  starting in Maniwaki with Scotiabank and Canadian International Paper Company (where she met the love of her life Stan), and in Scarborough at Eatons and Byron Jackson. And what a free and fun-loving spirit - entertaining family and friends, cooking and baking galore, decorating the house for Christmas, singing carols, Easter egg hunts, tobogganing, building forts and hiking in the woods, or celebrating Canada Day in the back garden, Mary was always the leader of the gathering! Strong and independent, Mary remained living in her own home in Scarborough until just a day of her passing. In her final years, Mary would tell us “don’t be sad when I am gone, I had a good life”.   We are uplifted and inspired by her example.  She was truly an amazing lady, loved and respected by all.  Special thanks to cousins Ann and Kelly, and PSW Julyn, for assisting Mary’s boys with her homecare and comfort. Cremation has taken place. Mass service on Wednesday March 29 at 10 a.m. at Precious Blood Parish, 1737 Lawrence Ave East, Scarborough. Interment to follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Markham.
