Obituary of Mr. Mike O'Grady
On February 24, 2023, Mike O’Grady passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was in his 87th year and lived all of his many years on his terms – doing exactly what he wanted.
Mike was known for his wit, his humour and his love for his family – particularly his grandson, Mason. A true man’s man through and through, he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball as a younger man and golf until just a couple of years ago. Loves he shared with his grandson and his brothers, Fred and Ian.
Mike was born Joseph Michael O’Grady on April 16, 1936 in Toronto, and was known as a child as Mickey, and later as Mr. Mike and Big Mac by neighbours and friends. Mike worked his entire career for Ontario Hydro, where he met his late wife, Joan, and countless friends. He retired almost 30 years ago and enjoyed every minute of retirement – golfing, playing bridge with friends or Trivial Pursuit with family, never missing one of Mason’s hockey or baseball games.
He was also known for his love of music – specifically the music of Frank Sinatra and could be found most summer evenings by the pool, with a cold drink, listening to Sinatra for hours.
Mike leaves a lasting imprint on the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him and will be missed deeply. By none more so than his daughter, Lorraine and her son, Mason, and the rest of the family, Ian and Louise, Doug and Tara and Paul and Kim, Irma, Brenda and Mike and Jeff and Susan.
There will be a visitation at 2pm Wednesday, March 8th at Ogden Funeral Home in Scarborough, followed by a service at 3pm in Ogden’s Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
