I was very shocked to hear of Soupy's passing.
Jenn, Meg, our thoughts and prayers are with you both and the family. I have many happy memories from joint crossword puzzles, hockey pools (Soupy always helped with some of my players' choices with his knowledge), and ice fishing. He was a great Copper, Brother in arms, whom I had the great privilege of working with at 14 Division. He made our midnights pass by quickly with his wit, humour, and anecdotes and "You know...". Soupy will be dearly missed by everyone.
Love Gord (Gordo) & Reta Reid and the girls.

I didn’t have the privilege of knowing Doug well, but I remember him so fondly; as a family man, proud of his Jenn & Meg, as a lover of books, his dogs, music, and hockey. When I think of Doug, I see his smile - and that mischievous glint in his eyes! His loud snoring and his apparent impervious to the cold. I can hear him calling “Meg!” and saying “Anna Banana!”
To me, he was warm, welcoming, witty and generous. I’m thankful to have known him, and I’m shocked at his passing.
Meghan & Jennifer, there really aren’t any fitting words at this heartbreaking time but I wanted to share my memories and send my deepest condolences. I’m so sorry for your loss. I wish I was there but my thoughts, love & sympathies are with you all.
All my love, Anna.

Jenn and Meg,
I've spent the last couple of days trying to think of what to say. Doug was like an uncle to me. Getting to spend time with the 3 of you has always been a highlight of my trips to Canada, and I was always especially excited when he would visit us in LA. Listening to him and my dad banter would never cease to bring me joy and seeing the connection the two of them had has always made my heart happy. And he's the only one in the world who could ever get my dad to go to a hockey game, which as I'm sure you know, is saying a lot. The last time he came to visit he asked me what kind of books I was into, and after one of his trips to a used bookstore he came home with a couple for me. I still have them and will cherish them forever.
I wish more than anything that I could be there during this difficult time, but please know that you are both in my thoughts and I am grieving with you. There are so many things that I will miss about him, especially his big bear hugs and infectious laugh.
Sending you so much love,
Hannah

Doug and I met in Mr. Strain’s grade 9 English class. We bonded over our love of comic books and fantasy! He was smart, athletic, good looking and way too cool for me. According to high school rules of engagement… no way should we have been friends.
But lifelong friends we became!
Doug was like a big brother to me. He introduced me to cool music like Supertramp and Pink Floyd and other greats that became the soundtrack of our youth. Doug and Tom, our third musketeer, took my art seriously and encouraged and cheered me on. Doug and I even collaborated on a short story that he wrote and I illustrated for our high school creative writing magazine.
When my career took me to Los Angeles he would visit often… happy to just hang out by the pool and read. As anyone who knows him knows…he was a voracious reader.
I will miss his overly detailed yarns and his big boisterous laugh. This world was too small for him! I’ll miss him forever!!
Much Love, Joe

Doug was a good friend from the early days of Silver Snail and I’ve included pictures of him with my new baby from winter 1981.
I can’t believe he’s gone. Sending love from Uli Havermann. Coworker, cashier and bookkeeper from the original Silver Snail Comics.
