Lucille Jhaman: April 18th, 1941 – February 11th, 2023 (Age 81)

Lucille was born on April 18th, 1941, in Success, Guyana, and was the youngest of 5 sisters and 2 brothers.

While in Guyana, Lucille was an adoring homemaker who worked very hard to manage her 6 children: her 3 girls: Eileen, Arlene, and Ingrid and 3 boys: Richard, Rudolph, and Rohan.

Upon immigrating to Canada in 1973, Lucille worked at the Laura Secord factory in Toronto for many years, and frequently brought home chocolate for her family and friends.

Lucille loved to cook and entertain for her family and regularly baked for her grandchildren, insisting that everyone bring home many, many containers of leftovers.

Lucille was a strong woman who faced significant adversity, and always found a way to persevere through the toughest of times. Lucille was fiercely independent, and when faced with challenges, she would rarely ask for help.

As Lucille faced health issues with diabetes, she developed a strict sense of disciple, and was very focused on her health and diet. She was able to lose a significant amount of weight and live a much healthier lifestyle. Lucille’s home was always immaculate, and she took great pride in it, where she hosted many gatherings and welcomed everyone.

In 2014, Lucille was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). In spite of this diagnosis, she continued to live independently and still continued to care for herself and her family until 2019.

As her symptoms further developed, her independence was challenged. It was at this point that her children and grandchildren intervened and sought out the best care possible to ensure that Lucille was well taken care of and supported.

Lucille was a very faithful Christian and attended church services regularly. It was in the church that Lucille found a sense of comfort and community with the congregation.

Lucille’s faith gave her the strength and motivation to fight, even as her symptoms progressed.

In her final days, Lucille held on just to say goodbye to her children and grandchildren one last time.

Lucille is survived by her sister Linda, and her brother, Andrew. Lucille is survived by 5 of her children, 8 grandchildren, Jennifer, Shanise and Natasha, Alim and Rahim, Christi and Brittany, and Jayden, as well as 1 great-granddaughter, Kiana. Lucille has now reunited with her beloved daughter, Arlene, who passed away in 2006, and is now with her Lord and Savior.
