Obituary of Mr. Mark McConney
Mark Everest McConney passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022 at North York General Hospital at the age of 88. Predeceased by his wife Eunice (2013) and siblings Courtenay, Irvine, Trevor and Hyacinth, he is survived by his sister Sylvia, his daughter Sharon (John) and son Dwayne (Irene). He also was the loving grandfather to Malachi, Emmanuel, Micaiah, Hayden, Maia and Santiago who all will greatly miss him.
Mark was born on May 23rd, 1934, in St. George, Barbados to Irvine and Orley McConney. He previously worked for Cable and Wireless in Barbados before moving to Canada in 1965 where he got married and raised his family. While in Canada he graduated from Ryerson (now Toronto Metropolitan University) and worked for several companies including Hilroy and the City of Toronto where he retired in 1999. Mark was a long-time member of the former St. John the Divine Anglican Church we he served as the Warden for several years. He remained active after retirement which included volunteering at Centenary Hospital, travelling to Israel and Turkey and spending time with his 6 grandchildren. In 2005, he helped found and became a charter member of the Malvern Onyx Lions Club where he also held various positions including treasurer and secretary.
Visitation will take place on Sunday December 4th from 4pm-7pm at the Ogden Funeral Home (4164 Sheppard Avenue E, Scarborough). The funeral service will be held on Monday December 5th at 11am at the Church of the Holy Wisdom (776 Brimley Road, Scarborough) with interment to follow at York Cemetery in North York.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Malvern Onyx Lions Club or the Scarborough Health Network Foundation two organizations he proudly volunteered for after his retirement.
