Sunrise January 18, 1953 - Sunset November 22, 2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ionie Hyacinth Wong at the age of 69 at Centenary Hospital in Scarborough. She is survived by her daughter Nadine Mitchell, son in law Derrick Mitchell, grandchildren Dominiqe and Devin as well as her brothers Terrence, Clive, Jerome and sisters Lona and Sonia.
Ionie Wong was born in Diamond, Clarendon Jamaica on January 18, 1953 and was the youngest child of Florence and Vernon Wong. She was the youngest of 6 siblings, 3 brothers Clive, Terrence, Jerome and 2 sisters Veronica and Lona.
As a young woman Ionie came from humble beginnings growing up in Jamaica working in her parents grocery store in Jones Town on John Street. She would graduate from high school and pursue further education at the Jamaica School of Business and later at the Jamaica Hotel School. Ionie immigrated to Canada with the help of her brother, Terrence Wong in 1977 and soon after, she would settle into a career working in accounts payable and human resources for the next 31 years.
Ionie had a zest for life and a gift for connecting with others. She was charismatic, genuine and kind hearted. She worked hard and had an infectious energy that touched everyone she met. Relentless in her desire to help others, she continuously opened up her home to nurture, bless and touch the lives of anyone in need. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends but she will forever live on in our hearts.
