Obituary of Mr. Arvids Hanzens

Arvids Hanzens passed on Nov.24,2023, just a week shy of his 99th birthday.
He was born in Aluksne, Latvia on Dec. 2 1923, being the youngest of five children.
At the young age of seventeen he left home for the army where he was a cook during the second world war. After the war, he and his wife Helene,left for Canada to work on a sugar beet farm, living in Winnipeg, then Toronto with his wife and two daughters,Inta and Sarma.
Arvids worked as an upholsterer where he recovered furniture for many years and had his own upholstering business. He always loved nature and spent many a happy time in Saulaine(a latvian church campground) with his family and friends, spending lots of time doing one of the dearest things to his heart, fishing! He also enjoyed working in his garden,and continued gardening til' a year before his death.
He was also a passionate Leafs fan.
Arvids also leaves behind two grandchildren,Krista and Ramona,a great granddaughter Sierra and had a great grandson,Ashly, who recently passed away.
Arvids was a hard worker,loyal to his family and helpful to people who needed things fixed .Arvids could fix almost anything and was an excellent handyman. He was kind and generous in heart . He was always there when you needed him
Arvids lived a long life and his family will deeply miss him. But ,he will be remembered always for his deeds and kindness and his deep love of nature which he has so importantly,quietly passed on to the younger generations in the family.He will be deeply missed!
Love always
