Obituary of Mr. Toby Jacob
Toby Varghese Jacob was born in Scarborough, Ontario on September 8, 1974, as the eldest son to Pulimoottil (Raju) Varghese and Aleyamma (Kunjumol) Jacob and brother to Siby Jacob.
The joy of his birth was mixed with worry as Toby was diagnosed with Down Syndrome and various other health concerns including leukemia. At that time, the specialists in Scarborough Centenary Hospital believed that Toby would only live for three months. Upon hearing this news, his devoted parents, family, and friends joined together to pray for his health and recovery.
Toby later was declared cancer-free and surpassed all medical expectations, living a blessed 48 years devoted to God, his family, friends, and his many hobbies.
Born and raised in Scarborough, he attended GB Little and Henry Hudson public schools, West Hill Collegiate, and finally the day program at Belsi Inc. Wherever Toby attended school, he found himself surrounded by close friends, as his inner joy and kindhearted nature could not be contained. He greeted everyone with a warm smile, remembering their name, and always wanting to help them in his own way.
Above all things, Toby loved God and was a proud and devoted member of the CSI Church, Toronto. He lived a prayerful life, remembering so many people in his daily prayers and expressing gratitude for the blessings he had.
Toby brought abundant joy to those around him and shared his passions with many. He was always playing music, singing songs and would be the first one on the dance floor when the chance arose. He bowled every Saturday afternoon with his league and has shelves filled with trophies to showcase his talents.
Toby is predeceased by his father, Raju Varghese, and is greatly missed by his family including, Kunjumol (mother), Siby (younger brother), Ancy (sister-in-law), Noah (nephew), and Maya (niece).
Countless relatives, friends, and church community members are heartbroken by this incredible loss.
Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Prayer of Solace
May Christ support
us all the day long,
till the shadows lengthen,
and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed,
and the fever of life is over
and our work is done.
Then in His mercy may
He give us a safe lodging,
and holy rest and
peace at the last.
Amen
