Please share a memory of Mr. Jack to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

25 DECEMBER, 1936 – 8 october, 2022

Passed away peacefully at Scarborough General Hospital, Toronto, at the age of 85.

Predeceased by his wife, Georgina. He is survived by his children, Cristina Aguanno (Joe) and John Salvatore (Mary), along with his two grandchildren, Richard and Sofia. He is predeceased by his sister Victoria Martino.

Jack was born in Guardiaregia, Campobasso, Italy. His family moved to Corsica where he learned to speak French fluently. They came to Toronto in September 1953. Jack was resourceful and learned to speak English by going to movie theatres when he arrived in Canada. He worked from the day he arrived and has had an extensive (and interesting!) job history. He was once a private driver for J.B. Dunkelman (Owner of Tip Top Tailors), he was a cab driver in downtown Toronto, and during this time, he and his father would go out sharpening because that was the trade of the Guardiaregia men. He worked at Massey Ferguson for 30 years and retired in 1986. During his later years at Massey Ferguson, he started a small engine repair business and did home renovations for National Trust. Just before he retired, he opened Abruzzi Lawnmower which turned into Lawnmowerland Inc. This eventually became his full-time job.  He then helped his son John carry on his business and together established Express Small Engines, where Jack worked alongside him to this day.

Other highlights of his life included sparring with George Chuvalo, he had a passion for horse racing and he actually once owned a race horse! He loved his family intensely and enjoyed all the celebrations and events through the years. He is fondly remembered by his extended family and friends, all of whom have wonderful stories to share of this incredible man. He had a big personality, loved to dress up and go out to the casino, and had a flair for cars and owned many Cadillacs in his lifetime. Jack was incredibly generous. He really enjoyed all the fruits of life and was never afraid to try new things. Everyone who knew him will never forget his forthrightness, laughter, and strength.

Sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and support staff at Scarborough General Hospital. In memory of Jack, donations may be made to the Lung Association.
