Mr. Dimitrios Vlachos

Obituary of Mr. Dimitrios Vlachos

Please share a memory of Mr. Dimitrios to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dimitrios “Jimmy” Vlachos, 76 of Scarborough, ON passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. He passed away from a heart attack while at work on a site project. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death.

Dimitrios was born and raised in Greece, where he met his wife, Eleni. They married in Germany where he worked as a cabinet assembler. With the help of his brother Elias “Louis” Evagelou, they moved to Canada to live out his dream of building a family and enjoying a simple life surrounded by those he loved.

He was a kind, loving and devoted partner to his spouse Eleni of 48 years, as well as an amazing father to their two boys Angelo (Joyce) and Paul (Penny) and cherished grandfather to his two grandkids Dimitri and Eleni. He always had a way of making every Do-It-Yourself project meaningful not only for the lessons in being self-sufficient, but for also using the time as a means to create deeper bonds that brought them closer together. To the grandkids, he was the "Pappou who fixed everything that broke". And to everyone else, whether a gadget, project,  or a family bond, he was still the one who everyone went to for help in mending the repair.

During his time in Canada, Dimitrios served as a skilled painter and tradesman for his brother Elias’ “Louis” Evagelou company, Toronto Decorating Corporation for over 45 years. Recognized by colleagues and clients for his integrity, kindness, and dedication, he also was the trusted confidant and anchor of loyal support to his brother as the company built itself to the brand it is today.

Dimitiri will remain known for his calm radiance and humble lifestyle that was rich in ways money could never buy: Rich in heart for those he loved, rich in appreciation for life, rich in selfless attitude to help others – never wanting for more than he had. His cup was always full, ready to lead from love with the right words for any situation inspiring anyone ready to receive his loving intent and words of wisdom.

Family meant everything to Dimitrios and there was nothing he wouldn’t do without his wife by his side….except when it came to his equal adoration of fishing and hunting!

He is survived by his wife Eleni, his sons Paul and Angelo and his siblings John, Elias and Soula.

We will miss him dearly.
