Obituary of Mrs. Helene DeSilva

Please share a memory of Mrs. Helene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

“In loving memory of Sri Natalie Helene DeSilva (nee Nanayakkara), our beautiful wife, mother, grand mother, and sister, who passed away peacefully September 17, 2022.

She was born in Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, in December 1940.

Devoted wife to Errol Paulinus DeSilva.

Loving mother to daughter Sabrina Helen Mahadeo (nee DeSilva, husband Ross), son Ewan Pierre  DeSilva (wife Catherine)

Adoring and caring “Nana” to Jessica Mahadeo, Brendan Mahadeo, and Leah Austin-DeSilva.

Always known to friends and family as Helene.

Helene worked at law firms such as Tilley, Carson and Findley when she first came to Canada in 1974 and moved to Borden, Ladner, Gervais until she retired.

She fell ill with cancer in later years, which with treatment, she beat the first time. A consummate fighter, dealt with kidney disease and subsequently regular dialysis. In the last few months, the lymphoma returned and aggressively spread. She bravely managed with many adversities yet always had a smile for us. Even in her pain, she would comfort us, still being Mother through her own suffering. She was an inspiration of strength, humility, love, and kindness.

Complications with the last treatment led to her passing. She fought to the end but ultimately was called back home to God.

Helene passed away peacefully with family around her, opening her eyes a last time to see those in the room, and also heard from other family members not present. Quietly and peacefully she left us to reunite with her mother and father, brothers that already passed, Max, Jesus, Mary, and God.

Although we are left with immense sadness and broken hearts, there was a huge party and on-going celebration as she was welcomed home to Heaven.

Thank you for everything you did for and with us, taught us, and shared with us. We are better for having you in our lives and your spirit, goodness, and kindness is passed along to all of the grand children.

You will always be a part of our lives, memories, and hearts.

With Love, until we meet again
