Obituary of Mrs. Susan Elizabeth Tooley
SUSAN TOOLEY (nee Gamble)
October 5, 1937 – September 2, 2022
After a long illness, Susan passed away with her family by her side, in her Agincourt home where she resided for 62 years.
Susan was born to parents Arthur and Sadie Gamble in Castlereagh, Nova Scotia, moved to Bayfield, Nova Scotia at 6 years old, then, at the age of 15, to Toronto to live with her brother, Doug.
Survived by Norm, her loving and devoted husband of 67 years; her children - Tom (Lorraine), Allan (Julie Garnett), Donna (Ted) Hagen, and Karen (the late Glen) Metherall; her grandchildren - Chris (Shelly), Joni (Tony Bain), Josh (Danielle) Garnett, Cassandra (Adam Koza), Madison (Pam Castelmezzano), Melanie Hagen (Chris Murdoch), Gordon Hagen (Laura McBride), and Brady Metherall; her great-grandchildren - Breanna, Abby, Trinity, Bella, Quinton, Ivy, and Ames; and, her numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews in Nova Scotia and Ontario. Survived by her sister, Noreen (the late John) Thornbeck, and predeceased by her brothers and sisters - Elsie, Kathleen, Arnold, Grace, Doug, Lillian, Walter, Mary, Charlie, Nettie, Carm, Earl, Fred, and Tommy.
Susan will always be remembered for her stories and her complicated family tree. She had a great sense of humour (right up until her last days), she was compassionate, understanding, offered great advice, was an outstanding listener, a wonderful role model, and had the biggest heart. Susan touched the lives of many and will be missed tremendously by all.
Visitors were always welcomed in Susan’s home. Guests could stay as long as they wanted – sometimes it was a day, a week, a month, a year, and even as long as 10 years – the door was always open, and will continue to be open for everyone.
Cremation has taken place; at Susan’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
