My dear ate Carmen: I was so very sad and shocked to find out that you have gone from our world. I wish I could have seen and connected with you more after I left the parish. But no matter, you have left your indelible mark with this one individual – me. At the beginning while you (volunteer) and I (secretary) worked together at the office, I held back cuz your demeanor seemed rather serious to me. But as we worked more together, sure you were serious, but yet so warmhearted as well. The many times you called me before coming to “work” and asking if I wanted anything from McD as you lived close by to one; and even if I said nothing please, you brought me coffee anyway. The number of times you took me to Kennedy station when I ttc’ed it in; the little Filipino delicacies, you did not make or bake, you would share. I loved your stone faced one liner jokes. Most of all your strong faith, and your helpfulness and compassion to others. You reminded me of that famous line alluded to royalty: “never complain; never explain.” I would just learn of your good deed done from others or from yourself but quietly and privately. You had that quiet reserve within you, so admirable.
So very happy to have known you however short. Am sure unbeknownst to you, you have made a difference in many people’s lives that you came across. I am one of them. The world is a better place because you have walked in it. You have truly walked the talk of our Faith. Thank you. Thank you.
Rest in peace now, Ate Carmen.
