Obituary of Mr. Alfred Leibrecht

Please share a memory of Mr. Alfred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alfred Dionysius Leibrecht, 86, of Toronto, Ontario Canada, succumbed to his failing health in the early morning of August 4th, 2022.

Alfred better known as “Fredi” is survived by his wife Margareta of 66 years, son Andrew and sister Heidi Lara as well as Amanda (daughter in law), many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is preceded by his daughter Susan. Alfred was a loving father, husband, and friend to everyone. His charm, sense of humour and love of life was infectious to all that he met.

Fredi was born on October 21st of 1935 in Karlsruhe, Baden-Wuerttemberg Germany. He grew up during the second world war and had to endure the loss of his older brother Ernst and father Karl. Despite a difficult childhood he managed to support his mother Gertrude and sister Heidi through odd jobs and even managing to find work at the Canadian Embassy. He also completed vocational training as a salesman. Then came the love of his life, Margareta who together made the decision to come to Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1956. Using his training as a salesman he eventually started his own retail furniture store know as Burma Teak Furniture Centre and later Burma Interiors and finally Furniture Boutique. Once the salesman, always the salesman even in his retirement he continued to sell long after closing his own business.

With his love of life and travel he managed to travel to many parts of the world thru the German Community Travel Groups with his family and friends. Always to be found in the centre of activities with his great sense of humour or on the dance floor. He left those he touched with great memories.

A special thank you to the people at Scarborough Grace Hospital, the many personal support workers and the many Doctors who always gave their best to provide him the best quality of life he could have. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards Ogden Funeral Home for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.

Visitation will be on August 12th, 2022 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Funeral Service 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM reception at Ogden Funeral Home in Scarborough.
