It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Mahaise (AKA “Gantic”), age 86, on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Centenary Hospital, Scarborough. Mahaise was born in Friendship Village, East Berbice-Corentyne, Guyana on December 15, 1935. He was the son of Baban and Mangri.

 

He enjoyed dancing, reading, and watching movies. He was also known for his inclination to be well-informed of global news and current events. He will be fondly remembered for his intelligence, wittiness, and perseverance. He was a charitable and generous man who regularly donated to many charities such as the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada and Canadian Red Cross. 

 

Mahaise is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Kalmattie. He will be forever cherished and remembered by his children: Gokarran (daughter-in-law, Lalita), Kewlawattie (son-in-law, Lall), Nankumar (daughter-in law, Kamille), Roopchand (daughter-in-law, Priya), and Rookmin (son-in-law, Paul); and his grandchildren: Jeffrey, Manila, Adrian, Ryan, Kevin, Randy, Steven, Jessica, Natasha, Vanessa, and Shaun. He was predeceased by his parents, Baban and Mangri; his sister, Ramrattie; and his son, Baldat; all of whom he loved dearly.

 

He will be deeply missed by his family, extended family, friends, and all who knew him.
