To the Canto family my heart goes out to you all at this time. Your father was a true friend to everyone on Fairglen especially to the Gaudio family (Silvia and Anna Maria).

Rosa, despite having never met Antonio, I could tell immediately by the way you talked about him that he was a tremendously special man, and loved by all who knew him. My sincerest condolences to you and your family. May his memory be a blessing.

Everyone should be blessed with an uncle like Zio Nino. He was always ready to laugh and to make you smile. He knew how to make everyone think they were the most special person to him. If you were to ask who his favourite niece was, each of my Maria Vaira cousins...one of whom is an "unofficial niece"... would tell you that it was her, and I would tell you the same, because that is just how he made you feel. I am sure that each of his nephews experienced this same sentiment when he joked around with them, because Zio was great with any child, not just his own. He always had a $5 bill on hand, to slip to the little ones, as my son, Daniel, can confirm.
As a son, Zio Nino was exceptional, standing in for his deceased father at an early age, and taking on onerous family responsibilities. He travelled to Venezuela by himself, to earn money and help support his family's move to Canada. He was always protective towards his sisters, Franca, "Concetta", and "Bice", and more than a cousin to his brother of circumstance, Paolo. When the time came, each of his sisters had Zio Nino at their side, as he walked them down the aisle.
Finally, it was Zio Nino's turn to march down the aisle. For this most important day, he joined his life to that of his dearest Rosa...a match made in heaven! They brought joy into each other's lives and into the lives of their children, Carmelo, Nick and Tony. And this was multiplied, as they welcomed their numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Zio Nino and Zia Rosa were never apart and always took care of each other. Zia Rosa was Zio's constant companion and keeper right until the end. There is no doubt that Zio only lived as long as he did thanks to her devotion and meticulous care.
Zio Nino will always be remembered as the man who brought joy to any gathering he attended, and who was not hesitant to demonstrate love and affection to family and friends. Whenever a toast is made at a wedding, birthday or special occasion, I know that we will all remember Zio Nino's gift for rhyming toasts, and will in turn pay tribute to his memory.
Dearest Zia Rosa, Carmelo, Nick, and Tony,
We extend our deepest condolences to you all. We share in your great grief and loss, and will keep you and Zio in our thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Maria, Lea, Joe and Daniel
