I met Irene at work. She was a kind, extremely generous, down-to-earth person. She was devoted to her family and would go out of her way to help a friend. She taught me a lot of things in life and I am forever grateful to her. Thank you Irene for being a friend and my life coach. I say goodbye to her for now, but we will meet again. You will always have a special place in my heart!

Ching Lung and i were saddened to learn that Irene has passed away. With her passing, we have lost a kind, loving, caring friend who was gentle on the outside, but strong on the inside. We admire the deep faith she placed on God to guard, guide and protect her when she had to cope with difficult health issues. May God grant her Eternal Rest, and let Perpetual Light shine upon her.
And may Benedict, Simon and Joyce find comfort in knowing that Irene is in a better place, free from all pain and sorrow; and

I was deeply saddened when I was told Irene had left the world.
I wish I could See Irene one more time to thank her for her help, thoughtfulness and support when we just arrived in Toronto more than 30 years ago. Without being asked, Irene offered to ride my daughter who was 4 years old to kindergarten on a regular basis. It meant so much for us especially for the first winter in Toronto, with the bitter cold, snowfall and accumulation. I cannot thank her enough. My daughter Winnie said she remembered the Lam’s family were like the nicest family.
I wish I could see Irene one more time to reminisce with her how we spent the wonderful times together when our children were young. The two families went to provincial parks during weekends, and we had a road trip together to New York. We celebrated birthdays and festivities and Irene usually invited us to her house for Christmas gathering. When my parents came to visit us in Toronto, Irene introduced her parents to my parents. What a warm welcome to my parents.
I wish I could see Irene one more time to say goodbye to her. I want her to know she will be warmly remembered, and she will always be in my heart. Goodbye for now. May Irene rest in peace. May her family find peace and comfort with the fond and loving memories.

說來奇怪，上週末我略感莫名的恍惚，也沒勁兒看信箱，到週一，才發現你遽爾離世的消息，萬分錯愕！
回望過去，在一個中式大家庭裡，我排行算是你長輩，但漫漫人生路上，你處事待人的態度，遠比我成熟。
初見，只覺你溫婉和善，但種種原因，令我們難得相處機會。不久，兩個小家庭先後離開香港，從此更天各一方。
去年翻閲昔日書信，再讀當年來函，時因憲華的哥哥病重，我得內外兼顧，你慇切問候兄嫂和孩子，情誼躍然紙上，予銘記於心！
家家有本難念的經，既成妯娌，本欲與你談心事，卻不知從何說起！
等到宇軒和雅曦長大了，你帶着他們來昆州相見，讓下一代出遊同樂，雖只短聚，亦留下歡樂回憶！我察覺你改變了，溫柔之外，更顯堅毅樂觀，是孩子的好榜樣！
之後我們赴加拿大，再次團聚，但匆匆又要道別⋯

As a sister seven years younger than Irene, I learnt a lot from her. She inspired me in the love of reading and writing, music, theatre and visual arts. I was always after her as a child, chasing her for her stories, some of which purely original from her own creation, many of which were Chinese history or Chinese classics told in her own funny way. She drew paper dolls that entertained me for years until I became a teenager, and her home-made bookmarks using her own drawings or poetry became my prize as a student. Irene played an important role in the family, our late dad "borrowed" her handwriting to write greeting cards to relatives, all of us relied on her to feed us her home-made delicious food at family gatherings, and the less-organized family members like me depended on her reminder to keep appointments (family events, parents' medicals etc) which she proactively posted on our google calendar. The passing of Irene leaves a big void for all of us. We are all proud to have Irene as our family member and she will be forever missed ... With love, from her youngest sister BarB

I came to know Irene at work. She gave me a very pleasant first impression because of her beautiful smile. As I came to know her better, I realized that there was more to it. She was very compassionate and kind. She treated others with respect and dignity. She was always there when you needed help. She was strong, she faced her challenges head on and never run away.

She spent most of her energy ensuring their safety and healthy development

Irene: You were one of the good friends I had the honour to meet when I first joined Toronto Social Services. That was before computers were introduced to the office. I enjoyed reading your notes partly because your calligraphy was just beautiful. I also remember one of your jokes after so many years. You were so nice as you and Ben welcomed us to your home for social gatherings. It meant a lot to newcomers. Irene, i am sure you have had a fruitful life and you will always be in our hearts..Bill
