Obituary of Mrs. Rachael Octavia Murray

Please share a memory of Mrs. Rachael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Rachael Octavia Murray was born October 24th 1934 on the island of Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies. She was famously known as ‘Tavi’ to her many longtime friends.  She leaves behind, daughter Rev. Linda Jones, son Aldwyn Murray, granddaughter Joy Jones and a her baby sister, Cynthia Bobb (nee Andrews).

When she lived in Trinidad she was a well-known dressmaker in the community who turned out many brides and wedding parties, as well as sewed very elaborate costumes for the Trinidad carnival revelers. It was one of the joys of her life.

In March of 1970, she immigrated Canada along with her children, here she continued her dressmaking. Later she worked with Bell Canada as a Customer Service Operator until her retirement in 2001.  Rachael was well-liked by staff and coworkers, many of whom have remained good friends with her over the years.

At the invitation of a co-worker, Rachael began to attend Agincourt Pentecost Church (APC) now known as One Church, and has never looked back. She loved the Lord and her church family and new found friends. She joined the ushers’ team, and was very involved with the home-gathering prayer and Bible study group.

Rachael will always be remembered for her infectious laughter, her generous spirit, kindness and compassion.  She loved to cook and entertain and will be greatly missed by her family and her many, many friends.
