Mondragon, Leonila (Nellie) Cuasay
It is with very heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother Leonila (Nellie) Cuasay Mondragon on January 16, 2022. Beloved wife of 59 years to Aristeo (Bert) Mondragon, loving mother to Sherry, Albert (Melanie), Brandon (Catherine), Ariel, Janet (Phil) and Michelle (Charlie); grandmother to Grace, Zachary, Justin, Frédérique, Gabrielle, Anais, Janelle and Jillian and great grandmother to Keaton, Arielle, Kennedy and Stephen.
Born and raised in Taal Batangas in the Philippines, she emigrated to Canada in 1974 to start a new life with her family. Nellie worked hard to help provide for her family and built a home filled with love, faith and generosity.
Guided by her deep faith in The Lord, she always exhibited Christian values and welcomed those who needed help into her home. Nellie was a leader in her church community and was respected and loved by those who crossed paths with her.
Always active in social settings, Nellie and Bert were always first on the dance floor and the last ones to leave. Her sense of fashion and style beamed through any room she was in. Her beautiful smile, kind heart and contagious laugh filled the hearts of anyone around her. She taught us to be generous with our time and to hold family, friendships and relationships close to our hearts.
We would like to thank the close friends who prayed and cared for her, especially during her last days. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at the Scarborough Grace Hospital for taking such good care of her during her last few days.
A mass will be held at St Barnabas Catholic Church on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 10:30 am, followed by the funeral Service at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Ajax. The mass will be live streamed and can be viewed at the following link:
