Obituary of Mrs. Ruth Hughes

            Ruth Thurston Hughes passed away peacefully on Saturday October 23, 2021 at Gibson Long Term Care. She is joined again with her faithful Husband William.  She was born on November 5, 1923 in Fort William, Ontario to Charles Edgar and Margaret Jane Wright.

            Ruth grew up in Lindsay, Ontario and later moved to Toronto where she met her husband of 46 years. Ruth was the devoted mother to her daughter Dianne, her son Ken(Jan), her daughter Joanne(former spouse Larry Elliot) and her son John (Diane). She will be forever missed by her cherished grandchildren Shawn (Lucy) and great grandchildren Angeline and Owen, Courtney and great granddaughter Abrielle, and grandchildren Melissa, Robert, Nichelle and Brydon. Ruth is predeceased by her brother Jack whom she loved dearly.

            Ruth was deeply dedicated to her faith and tireless service to the United Church Community. She will be fondly remembered for her commitment to her work as Junior Choir Director at Iondale Heights United Church.

            The family would like to express our most abundant gratitude toward the nurses and staff at Gibson Long Term Care. You always made her feel special and loved, tended to her needs, put up with her at times and especially, you kept her comfortable and cared for in her last days. Thank you very much!

            Although we know she touched many lives, due to COVID-19 restrictions her funeral service will be grave site only. In lieu of flowers, donations to Make A Wish Foundation, World Vision and or Compassion Canada would be greatly appreciated.
