Obituary of Mr. John Wayne Chinnery

Please share a memory of Mr. John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with much sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of Wayne after a lengthy illness, at Baycrest Hospital in Toronto, on Wednesday September 29, 2021 at the age of 72.

He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted partner of 28 years, Pamela Ishmael. Beloved father of Jeffery (Bria) and Shawn (Susan).  Loving cherished stepdad to Omana, Charmaine (Rafal), and Reaud.  Loving Grandfather to Shawn, Emmitt, Colin and Zenon. Predeceased by his parents Jack Jr. Chinnery and Nora Chinnery (nee Sanders) and brother Ross. Survived by his brother Bruce (Susan).  Wayne, will be deeply missed by his many relatives and friends.

Wayne had a long, rewarding career at the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) holding various positions his last being, Superintendent of various divisions.  After retiring from the TTC in 2001, his passion for driving and keeping busy led him to positions of driving transports (Verspeeten), heavy equipment (Miller) and cutting grass at Remington Golf Club.

Wayne was a proud and private man, rarely sharing his medical struggles and in particular with diagnosis of Lupus and how it impacted his overall health.  Wayne was known for driving himself to the hospital, as he didn’t want to inconvenience or concern anyone.   When asked how he was feeling, his usual response was “As best as can be expected.”

As a lifetime cottager of Brady Lake in Haliburton Ontario he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, snowmobiling and volunteering.  Wayne’s favourite season was fall.  Wayne absolutely loved the temperature, sitting in his favourite chair, cranking up the woodstove to pump out as much heat as possible, and taking in the spectacular fall colours. He was a long standing Director of the Brady Lake Ratepayers Association, Director of the Haliburton County Snowmobile Association and 5 years volunteer with the OPP as a Special Constable Stop Officer.

All who knew and loved Wayne will, eternally miss him.
