Obituary of Mr. Joseph Knight

August 23, 1942 – June 2, 2021

Formerly of Bank Hall Cross Road, St. Michael, Barbados and Pickering, Ontario, Canada entered peacefully into rest on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 in his 79th year.

Loving son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Alfred Knight. Husband of Gloria Knight, his loving and devoted wife and current President of DLP Barbados Canada Inc. Father of Alana (Richie), Natalie, Paul and the late Alan Knight. Grandchildren M’Liyah, Marley, Cazzy, Quadré, Zavié and Danté.

Beloved brother of twin sister Etwyn Knight, Dorothy Bryan (Robert); Colene Clarke (Denton); Betty Linton and the late Alfred Knight and George Cameron Knight. Brother-in-law of Angella Springer.

Uncle of Ian, Camela and Corey Knight (Barbados); Bakari and Andwele Bryan (Canada) and Kip Linton (United Kingdom). Relative of the Bayley, Workman, Edey, Worrell, Barrow and Cheltenham families.

Friend of Bernard Rolston, Winslow Skeete, Victor Grant, Mark Norville, Victor Jones, Ralph Denner, Winston Bynoe, Desmond Douglas and a host of friends and relatives too numerous to mention.

Merton loved sports and was very passionate about cricket. He also had a keen interest in politics as demonstrated in his overseas involvement in the political affairs of Barbados. He was the incumbent Vice President of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Barbados Canada Inc., where he held many roles including Board Member, Vice President, Chair of the Outreach and Co-Chair of the Hospitality Committees.

We are all deeply saddened by his passing and will miss him dearly. The precious memories that we have all shared over the years will forever be etched in our hearts. Special thanks to Dr. Paul Galiwango and all the Medical Personnel who assisted him during his illness.

May he Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory!

When COVID restrictions are lifted, the family will plan a Celebration of Life service in his honor to be announced at a later date.
