Obituary of Ms. Mina Yuen Ping Yu

Yu, Mina 1950 - 2021 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mina Yuen Ping Yu, on May 12, 2021, at Sunnybrook Hospital.  Predeceased by her parents Bing Kui and Lily, Mina is survived by her sister Betty (Albert), her brother Kwok Fung, her niece Joanna (Derek), her nephew Ben, her great-nephews Christopher and Trevor, and her dear friends Florence and Ellen.  Born in Hong Kong on December 2, 1950, Mina was the youngest of three siblings.  She immigrated to Toronto in 1988, and settled down in Scarborough.  A member of the Hallelujah Chinese Evangelical Free Church, Mina regularly attended Sunday Service and small group meetings.  Mina was passionate about three activities:  taking ample photos of beautiful scenery, from the cherry blossoms at High Park to the colourful tulips at Niagara Falls; collecting clothing, shoes, and fashion jewellery; and attending many parades in the city, like the Santa Claus Parade and the Caribana Festival.  One year, in her determination to take photos of every single float at the Santa Claus Parade, she chased Santa’s float from Museum Subway Station all the way to Queens Park before finally capturing a photo!  Mina also loved to travel.  Of the many vacations she took in her lifetime, her two favourite destinations remain the Silk Road in China, and Egypt, each of which she visited shortly before her move to Toronto in 1988.  She will be fondly remembered as a loving sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend.  A special thank you goes to the dedicated staff at Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre and the Sunnybrook Palliative Care Unit.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation.  A private service will be held.
