Hope House Hospice provided a wonderful support within the community for my husband by providing fresh, homemade soups which he enjoyed every week. As a family member, I received valuable counseling online at no cost. The palliative physician, Dr. Lanani visited Toning at home. Her compassion and professionalism helped to make the difficult journey bearable. In memoriam to my beloved husband, Toning i am forwarding a donation in his memory.

“Every spirit builds itself a house, and beyond its house a world, and beyond its world a heaven” (Ralph Waldo Emerson). Toning, you came to Canada with a small suitcase filled with a few clothes and dreams. You not only found a lifelong companion and friend with my sister, Brenda, but together you built a home for your precious girls. Everyone who entered your home felt it come alive with hospitality, quiet enthusiasm, and graciousness as you used what seemed like the ordinary and simple to stir the soul. I saw the warmth of your heart reflected in your unbelievable culinary arts, your kindness as you spoke to and listened to me, your passion for your family here and in the Philippines. I was so thankful that my sister embraced your culture and family as her own. Thank you for sharing Jennie, Sammy, Nonnie, and Naomi with me many years ago because my bond with them has impacted me lifelong. “We shape our dwellings, and afterwards our dwellings shape us” (Winston Churchill). Your dwelling was a place where your girls (Heidi, Samantha, Kristine) grew secured and safe to daydream and mature into fine young ladies. Your legacy lives in them and your grandchildren Nolan, Juliette, and Loralei. And I bet, if they sat quietly, they would feel a tiny little suitcase filled with your spirit and love in the center of their hearts. To rephrase a quote by Anne De Lenclos: Today a new sun arises for us; everything lives, everything is animated, everything seems to speak to us of your passion for life and invites us to cherish it.
We’ll be seeing you again

Perhaps it was because I was the one taking the photo, or there just wasn't enough room on the couch for me, but Toning was one of the brothers indeed. I know my dad thought a lot of him and loved him as he did the bearded ones hogging the couch. I'm sure in time he got the lumberjack plaid shirt but he probably didn't have it long before he gave it to someone else as Toning was a man with a big and generous heart. What a blessing it is when someone comes into our lives and from that point on we continue our journey as family that brings them along for more than 40 years. As I think and reflect back on those years the memories are quickly piling up like the food Toning ensured was always on my plate... truly a man who had the gift of hospitality. I'm sure by now Toning has crossed paths with my dad and they haven't wasted time catching up. Do you think there is fishing in heaven?
God thank you for bringing Toning into our lives and for the love and care he gave to Brenda, his three girls and then his grandchildren. Help us now to continue to live this day to the fullest and to love others as we remember the love and life of Toning my brother.

Toning was a very friendly and generous person. Toning had supported FPCO activities for over 20 years.
I, as the ex-chairman of FPCO, will like to thank you and your family for support.
Toning knew that I like fruit jams, so he always gave me various jams he personally made. To this days, when I spread jams on my breakfast toasts, I always thought of him. Thank you Toning.
Toning was also my mahjong partner for so many year until he was sick. We, the mahjong group will miss you forever.

Toning was a friend who treated me like his younger brother. He welcomed me to his home unconditionally and made sure I was part of his circle of family and friends. Over the years, he extended the same warmth to my own family and loved my children like his own grandkids. Life brought me to another part of the world but every chance to visit him was enough reason for him to call family and friends for a reunion.
Toning I miss you and I wish I had the chance to spend more time with you before you left us. But I know you are in a better place and basks in the glory of God and others who have gone ahead. May I have the opportunity one day to pass on your warmth and kindness to another person in honor of your kind soul. Rest in peace my brother and know you will always be a part of my own family.

Gatherings at the Tan’s house always included a big feast. My favourite meal was Lumpia. You could tell how much work and preparation Toning put into the crepes and fixings for the spring rolls.
Toning you will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
