Papa Souze was a nice man in simple English. One of the good guys. Known him all my life. I remember him asking me how was my first day at high school that first evening. He was approachable. He always said hello. I worked a few months at the Railroad when he was there and Papa Souze was all business, but in the evenings he was one of the guys especially when about six or seven of us from youth club showed up at his house uninvited. He participated in the games or whatever the activity was that we had on the agenda for that night. We knew he appreciated us and we loved him too.
Rest in peace Papa Souze. Condolences to his family.
John Outridge.

Growing up in Guyana, we lived about a block from each other. Uncle Anthony was always kind and gentle. He is a great example of a husband, father and uncle. He will be truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the DeSouza family.

TRIBUTES FROM GUYANA
1 - Thomas and Shirley Howell
Dear J
We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to you and family on the death of our dearest friend and father Papa Suze. We thank God for a life spent serving others. A life that is worthy of one place and that is heaven. We share in your grief at this moment but are consoled that one day we will all meet again with you to hold his hand. Papa Suze was more than a friend to us, he was a father and kind listener, a cheerful spirit. Good bye Papa Suze, farewell our friend. J, with us and the rest of the family to support you, stay strong. Shirley and I are dedicating the theme song "I'll Never Find Another You" by The Seekers to the entire family.
2 - Sheila Vigilance
My Dear J
I'm so sorry to hear such a thing. I know death is a thing that we all will have to bear. We all know that we have to die someday but still we can't take it. You had a husband, a father and a brother and I remember when you were living in Guyana in the fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties and at our church movement Papa Suze was always there side by side with us giving his support to the church. He played his part as a member of the church. When we had to go places he was always there with his car. We give God thanks for his help and will always remember his kindness to our church. I for one will miss him too. I remember in 1992 when I was in Canada and had a problem Papa Suze was there to help, I will never forget that . I ask God to strengthen you Jeanette and I know the children Jeanie, Gloria, Maurice, Valerie, Audrey and Stevie will be by your side. May his soul rest in peace. Love Sheila
3 - George Vanderwood
Papa Suze was a good and faithful servant of God and loved his religion. Condolences to the family. May his soul rest in peace.
4 - Bishop George Alleyne
Sincere condolences to the entire family. May his soul rest in peace.
5 - Dorothy Dhanpaul
My sincere sympathy to the whole family.
6 - Andrea and Audrey Joseph and family
The words of a song say "Memories don't leave like people do, they always stay with you, whether they be good or bad." We have only delightfully good memories of dear Papa Suze even when he was upset. Papa Suze was a well-bred man for all seasons whose love, care and warmth knew no limit. My mind races to the bauxite mining town at Mackenzie to girlhood days. I admired how Papa Suze lovingly called Mama Suze "J" To me, it possessed a warmth beyond measure.......how with precision he pulled his hair back, put on his safety hat and rolled his sleeves up for work.......how he hurried home from work because he knew the comfort and love of home and family and so much more. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. May God grant you the faith and strength as you cherish Papa Suze's life. Love always!

To Jeanette and the entire De Souza family
A limb has fallen from the family tree
I keep hearing a voice that says " Grieve not for me "
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.
The good life i lived while i was strong.
Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don't worry about falls
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin,
Until the day comes we're together again.
Amen.

To MamaSuze, and the entire DeSouza family, please accept the sympathy and condolences of my family on the passing of Papa Suze. The world has lost a gentle and loving soul while Heaven has gained an Angel.
PapaSuze, I will dearly miss you. Your soft spoken voice, miss hearing you call your J's name, miss your smile, miss seeing how the boys tease you sometimes.
You are "sleeping" peacefully now. You have run this race, kept the faith, and you have finished well. It is your time to rest. No more cares, sickness, pain and troubles of this world. Your labour is over, it is your time to rest in the arms of your Saviour. So Dad, I will not say goodbye, but see you on that glorious resurrection morning when the trumpet shall sound and those who are asleep in Christ shall rise to meet Him in the air. I love you.
Your B daughter

My deepest sympathy to aunt J, my cousins and their families. Papa Souze was my favorite uncle and a father figure to me. I am thankful for the countless memories he has left for us.
He was a loving and compassionate man who loved his family. He was always there for us when we were children and no words can express the loss we feel today. As we mourn his loss, let us comfort each other with the love he has shown us and let us take the best care of his beloved J. Rest in peace, uncle Anthony. Until we meet again.

I have the fondest memories of Pappa Souz, over the last few years I learned from him that he did not fret about anything. He always asked me " how I Am doing "?and I would gab on about my life and he would smile and say " don't worry things work itself out" .The last time I saw him he was happy to be at home. His wife first and foremost was the most important thing to him, his children, his grand children and extended family he cherished. A great loss as a man ,Father, husband and uncle.I know in my heart he is comforted by by Father and the music plays on!

Heartfelt condolences to Aunt J, children, in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren. This gentle man taught us the meaning of unconditional love. In his undying love for his beautiful and beloved J. In his love for his children and grandchildren and his family. In extending his hand of kindness to those who were in need without any expectations. This gentle man has shown us how to live and how to leave the world a better place. Thank you for the legacy you left for us. Godspeed, Papa Souze. Rest In Peace.

My dear Aunt J , cousins and their families - please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of our beloved uncle Anthony. I remember the many times our two families spent together when we would visit each other. When they lived on Bulletwood Street he used to play music from his tape recorder and have a party and play dominoes . So my dear uncle, you have earned your eternal rest . You will surely be missed. Rest in peace.

2020 was a year the world will remember as life-changing and unprecedented - with too many losses of family, loved ones and friends. And here we are in early 2021 - and our hearts are weeping again to learn on Papa Suz sunset. Beloved husband to Lady, loving father to Jeannie, Gloria, Maurice, Valerie, Audrey and Stevie and wonderful grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. My heart is broken by his loss. He was a class act, a true gentleman, kind, generous, God-fearing and loved his family to the end. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love that I pray will sustain his family as they grieve his loss. Dearest Papa Suz, rest in eternal peace, safe in the arms of Jesus. Sending heartfelt and deepest condolences to the entire family. You are ALL in my prayers and thoughts.

Dear Aunty J, Cousins and family, We are so sorry for the passing of Uncle Anthony. I can still remember the many Christmases when everyone from McKenzie used to come down to visit us in House Street, what a wonderful time we used to have. I still have the memory of how he rolled up his shirt sleeves and how he used to take us to the 1 o'clock movies when he came to town. He was such a wonderful person. I am so glad that Gail got to know him. We will always remember and love him. May he rest in peace. Our love to everyone. Ricky, Gail and family
