Obituary of Mr. Shashikant Washikar

We are deeply saddened to announce that after battling a short illness Shashikant Washikar passed away peacefully at age of 83 on January 27th surrounded by his family.

Shashi was born in Kolhapur, India and was educated in Mumbai at J. J . College of Architecture where he received his degree. He was always passionate about architecture and took great pride in his career. After graduation, Shashikant worked in Mumbai for three years before  immigrating to London, England in 1965.

After a short stay in London, he arrived in Canada, the place he would call his home in 1966. He would later open his own private practice as an architect and become an active member of the Ontario Association of Architects.  He always instilled the great importance of education to his family. He will be remembered by his clients’ as a hard working and kind person.

In addition to a love of architecture, Shashi’s main interest was Marathi Drama. He acted in "Ammaldar" staged by Marathi Bhashik Mandal in 1969 and continued to act Marathi dramas staged by MBM.

Shashikant is survived by his devoted son Raj and grandchildren whom he loved so much; James and Karen. His is predeceased by his cherished wife Mary. Although we know he touched many lives, due to COVID-19 restrictions his funeral service will be private, however livestreaming information will be available to those who request the link from his family.
