Obituary of Mr. Stefan Liburd
In an untimely manner, our beloved Stefan passed at the age of 53 on January 24th, 2021 in Brampton, Ontario. Loving son of the late Alice and Harold Liburd. Biological father to Raymond(Tim). Loving brother of Ingrid James, Trevor Black and Debra Layne. Tenderly remembered by his nieces Oreka, Mahayla, Kyla, Jamie, Denene and nephews Cory, Nikolas and Silas.
Stefan was born March 2nd, 1967 in Manchester, England to Alice and Harold Liburd. He had spent his formative years in Basseterre, St.Kitts, but was later raised in Toronto, Ontario in 1971 with his sisters and brothers. He lived and worked in Toronto while pursuing his passion as a member, guitarist, lyricist, and vocalist of Toronto band, Retna Burn.
Despite a rough upbringing and difficult journey, Stefan always sought love and acceptance. He loved all kinds of music, especially Rock n’ Roll and had taught himself to play the guitar in high school; this is where he found peace, as a musician. Music allowed him to feel free and reminded him why he would spend the rest of his life playing and writing.
He had many long-term friends in his childhood that he carried well into adulthood; ones that he had adored and shared countless adventures with. He loved dearly the friends he had met along the way as they provided the support and companionship he desired. Although distant from family, he re-entered the sibling-ties and developed better, less elusive relationships, attempting to maintain stronger and positive bonds with his siblings, nieces and nephews.
Stefan was always the rebellious soul and with his wicked sense of humor he constantly tried to uplift the spirits of those around him. He provided people with care, support and shelter when they were without. More recently he had changed his outlook on life and was looking forward to more positive experiences, memories and outcomes, but unfortunately this was not to be.
We strongly believe that death isn’t final, but a passageway to new, refined life. We hope and pray Stefan has found peace and is greeted in the afterlife with those lost before him whom he loved and longed to see again. We will miss his smile, his laugh, his humor and his passion. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family, friends and all who knew him.
