Jack was President when I became a Chief Steward. He was there for me when I needed help for the members. Years after I would still be working with agreements originally signed by Jack. I'm happy he was able to enjoy retirement. As others have said much of the retirement benefits were a result of work put in by Jack and his team. Thanks in solidarity.

Our condolences to Jack and his family. I have never forgotten how much Jack fought for us all when I worked on Trades bargaining with him. His contributions to Ontario Hydro Union pensions and benefits are still, to this day, being enjoyed by all Hydro retirees. They are the best and we continue to thank him.
I still miss the days when you used to come back north and stop in. You never forgot where you grew up. Thank you Jack.

Jack was my boss at the PWU for many years and I had the privilege to provide support to him at collective bargaining many times. He was the Pension king and had a leading role in the great pensions that people at Ontario Hydro and all the companies it became now enjoy. He always had my up most respect. He was a straight shooter. My prayers to his family.

I am deeply saddened to hear of a fellow" Nipigonite",a fellow concerned union member trying to uplift his section by serving in a position of responsibility to better the lives of the membership. Jack and I crossed paths in Nipigon (where I also lived) several times but, Jack was streamed into theThermal division along with another Nipigonite by the name of Gordon Jackson while I chose the eventual Nuclear Division in 1960 becoming Nuclear Division chairperson in the late the 60's. Several unplanned meetings with Jack in Bruce County would end up with laughter and lament of the good days of Nipigon. To Jack's family, my deepest condolences. His smile and laughter will be missed.

We are very sad to hear of Jack's passing. I have many memories of Jack not only from my childhood, as my Dad was an active member of the O.H.E. U. and the Power Workers Union but also throughout my working career and PWU involvement. It was always great to sit and catch up with Jack. Keely Cummings, Jack MacDonald and Don MacKinnon are all great leaders and Pioneers of one of the greatest Labour Unions in this country. There is a great legacy and wonderful history that We should all remember when we think of Jack at this sad time. Condolences to his entire family and friends on a huge loss.

Jackie was one of a kind. Sonny and l were happy to have him drop in on his way to Thunder Bay while we lived in Terrace Bay. Sonny and Jack would rehash their younger lives about east end and west end gangs. When they lived in Nakina, their stories were quite entertaining. When we relocated to Thunder Bay and Jack would be here we always has a great visit. He was a proud father and grandfather. Always relaying stories about his family
Let his memories live on remembering his smiles and Jackie being Jackie
Sincere condolences to Jack,s families

Thank you Mark Bradley for the amusing story of Jack rescuing you and Ken at the hockey game. I myself first met Jack at a hockey game in Cranbrook when Paul was playing for the Kootenay Ice. I could tell how proud Jack was of his Grandson.
Ken was well behaved and the evening went by without any incidents requiring Jack to come to our rescue.
Leslie and I send our condolences to Jack’s family and pray that all are comforted by the lifetime of memories Jack leaves with you.

This photo is from the last time I saw Jack, at Paul and Karen's wedding.
My favorite Jack story (it's been retold by me many times):
When we were maybe 17 or 18, Ken and I had gone to some kind of a hockey game in Thunder Bay (that had to be Ken's idea, as my interest in hockey was minimal at best). We were standing around near the concession stands on a break between periods after grabbing a coke. In those day, Ken was a well known local hockey player, and nearby there was a guy (several year's older than us) who was keen on making a name for himself by fighting Ken... the guy may not have been completely sober.
He (& a friend) walked up to us and started in with some aggressive talk. Ken and I were a bit slow on the uptake and just tried to ignore him. Unbeknownst to us, Jack and Sylvia were also at the game, and had been watching the guy screw up his courage. When he got within swinging distance of Ken and I, Sylvia gave the order: "Get him Jack". All 275 pounds of Jack MacDonald came flying into our field of view, and with one hand on each, lifted both guys up over our heads and pinned them to the wall (& Ken and I are both well over 6 feet tall). The instigator was so scared his eyes rolled back in his head - all you could see was the whites of his eyes - I had never seen that before (or since).
All Jack said was "Leave the kids alone", and dropped them on the concrete floor of the concession area.. they got up and ran off like scalded cats!
The moral: Jack was a great guy, and did NOT mess around when it came to his kids. I'll miss him.
Mark Bradley

Some years later while we were walking along Eglington Ave in Toronto some chap came up behind John & gave him a bear hug. After a few seconds John turned to find it was Jack with a big smile on his face.
